Destiny 2: Vanilla Blades Recipe Guide (The Dawning 2020)
The Dawning has returned to Destiny 2 and Guardians can get to work baking the game's tastiest treats, including the Vanilla Blades.
The Dawning has returned to Destiny 2 and Guardians are jumping into the game to participate in the festive quests. Using Eva Levante’s baking oven, players will need to put together some tasty treats for their allies in the tower and across Destiny’s universe. However, the ingredients for those holiday snacks can only be obtained by defeating enemies and completing in-game content, such as bounties acquired from Eva Levante, Gambit, Crucible, Strikes, or the Destiny 2: Beyond Light Deep Stone Crypt raid.
During the seasonal event, players will be rewarded with an exotic ship, a shader, and other cosmetic rewards that are reflective of the time of year. There is also a quest that requires contributions from the entire Destiny 2 community to complete. To make Guardians’ lives a bit easier, they can find the ingredients required to bake the Vanilla Blades recipe for one of Eva Levante’s bounties.
To bake the Vanilla Blades in this year’s Dawning event in Destiny 2: Beyond Light, Guardians will need to gather three ingredients: Cabal Oil, Sharp Flavors, and Essence of the Dawning. Each ingredient is relatively simple to obtain, as they mostly require players to defeat enemies or complete playlist content. So, the most efficient method of obtaining them is to play Gambit or tackle Vanguard Strikes.
Cabal Oil is the uncommon (green) ingredient for this recipe and is acquired by defeating Cabal. Loading into Nessus in Artifact’s Edge for the public event there is a great way to farm these enemies and get a lot of Cabal Oil. An alternative is to load into the EDZ at the Sunken Isles and going on a Cabal hunt at the Echion (the Skydock IV Lost Sector is useful for this). The Arms Dealer Strike is also an efficient choice, and it provides Essence of the Dawning upon completion.
Regardless of the location chosen, Cabal Oil drops are not guaranteed with each kill. So, players should keep taking out the Brutes of Destiny until they have acquired a decent stack. From there, the second ingredient needed for Vanilla Blades is Sharp Flavors. This is the rare (blue) ingredient needed for this recipe. The Sharp Flavors ingredient is obtained from getting sword kills. Like the Cabal Oil, drops are not guaranteed. So, players should keep swinging until they have looted a decent number of Sharp Flavors to bake Vanilla Blades.
The final ingredient is Essence of the Dawning. Also rare (blue), this is the constant ingredient required for all the seasonal event’s recipes. Acquiring Essence of the Dawning is simple but time consuming. Completing Strikes, Crucible matches, or Gambit runs is the most efficient way to gain stacks of it. Each run grants anywhere between 12 and 17 Essence of the Dawning.
To maximize farming all three ingredients for the Vanilla Blades, running the Arms Dealer Strike and getting as many kills as possible with a sword is quick and efficient. This grants the Cabal Oil from defeating Cabal, Sharp Flavors from sword kills, and the Essence of the Dawning for completing the Strike. Cloudstrike in Destiny 2 can also make short work of clustered enemies for fast farming, but this is not recommended in lieu of using a sword.
In total, players will need one Cabal Oil, one Sharp Flavors, and 15 Essence of the Dawning to bake one Vanilla Blades treat. Turning Eva Levante’s baking oven into a Masterwork reduces the cost of each recipe to 10 Essence of the Dawning. Guardians can do this by learning every recipe available in the event. This will help save resources when baking different snacks for allies, enabling players to churn out more recipes at a more efficient pace and save time.
Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
