Relive Every 2020 Superhero Movie Delay With This Catchy Rap Song

0

Every 2020 superhero movie delay can now be relived with a catchy rap song. In March, the World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 coronavirus a pandemic, and the events that followed put the film industry in an unprecedented situation. Productions paused and theaters around the world closed. However, as productions resumed with new COVID protocols and a large portion of theaters reopened in August, the industry's hope of resuming some normality with movie releases was crushed when Christopher Nolan’s Tenet performed below expectations at the box office.

The coronavirus continues to affect the film industry, as recently Tom Cruise scolding a crew member for violating social distancing protocols only shows. But one of the most notable impacts of the pandemic has been the delays to high profile superhero movies. The MCU delayed Black Widow, eventually by a whole calendar year. In addition to that, they pushed Eternals back by a whole year from November 2020 to November 2021, changing the order of Marvel’s Phase 4. Elsewhere, Sony delayed Morbius and Venom 2, and after numerous delays, Warner Bros. made a groundbreaking announcement with Wonder Woman 1984 releasing simultaneously in theatres and on HBO Max on Christmas day. Now, the drama and delays can all be revisited in a new rap song.

Uploaded to his official YouTube channel, hip hop artist Ekoh released a brand new song titled “Real Bad (2020),” which breaks down the tumultuous year of 2020 by looking at the high profile release delays in 2020. The rapper has managed to turn the unfortunate news into a rather catchy, upbeat tune with clever lyrics weaving in all the notable delays. Lines like Jared Leto's not my Joker, but I wanted Morbius, s--t” and “But instead of Kill Bill, I'm just killin' beats to Black Widow” likely echo the sentiment of most fans. Plus, there are some notable heartwarming lyrics, such as a small tribute to Chadwick Boseman: “Love to the king and his family.” The video for the song includes a visual of a theater ticket with the song title on it, a clever symbol for the year and pain experienced by film lovers. Full video can be seen below:

Ekoh has previously claimed his music is about embracing real life, and that’s evident here, with a song he refers to as his “middle finger to 2020.” The delays to the major superhero movies have not only left a void for film fans, as this year has had no MCU films. The song does also touch on films like Black Adam, which was going to start production in 2020, and eventually saw its release date for 2021 completely removed from Warner Bros.' schedule. Despite touching on such bad news, the song will likely resonate with many as far as their feelings towards 2020, but thanks to a catchy tune and clever lyrics, it makes for a more eventful trip down memory lane.

Although 2020 has brought with it many challenges, many people within the industry are hoping they and theaters will bounce back in 2021. Sir Ian McKellen received the COVID-19 vaccine earlier this week, and many theater chains like AMC have cited the vaccine as a boost that business will turn around in 2021. Many will hope that 2021 will not bring with it the severe delays for major superhero films that plagued this last year. But if people want to revisit the delays to all the superhero movies in 2020, Ekoh’s catchy rap song has given them a good way to revisit history.
