On December 19, the Interior Ministry of the Sanaa-based Yemeni government, which is led by the Houthis [Ansar Allah], presented a locally-made armored vehicle, dubbed “Bass-1.” The vehicle was showcased during the inauguration ceremony of the Interior Ministry’s Security Manufacturing Unit in Sanaa.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior Yemeni officials, including Interior Minister Maj. Gen. Abdul Karim Amir Al-Din Al-Houthi. The minister said Bass-1 was specially designed to carry out security operations.
“The Bass-1 armored vehicle was manufactured with Yemeni hands and experiences,” the minister said.
Maj. Gen. Rizk al-Joufi, undersecretary of the Interior Ministry for security and police, praised the development of the vehicle, despite the Saudi-led coalition siege on Yemen. The siege has been ongoing since the outbreak of the war in 2015.
The Bass-1 armored vehicle features a modern design with bulletproof glass and firing holes on the doors as well as in the back. A heavy weapon, like a DShK 12.7 mm machine gun, can be mounted on the vehicle’s turret.
The release of the Bass-1 vehicle proves, once again, that the Saudi blockade on Yemen, which is responsible for the humanitarian crisis there, is not effecting the Houthis’ military capabilities at all.
The inability of the Saudi-led coalition to impose a full blockade on Yemen is not only problem of the invasion force. Pro-Saudi forces are on the retreat on the battlefield. Recently, most intense clashes took place in the province of Marib, where the Houthis are seeking to capture the provincial capital – Marib city. If this is done, the Saudi-led coalition will lose its last real stronghold in central Yemen.

- On December 20, sporadic clashes between Ansar Allah and Saudi-led forces continue in the areas of Raghwan and Madghal;
- On December 19, Saudi-led warplanes struck Maheliyah District.
