Dirt 5 Performance Mode On Xbox Series X Now Runs As Well As PS5

0

Codemasters has rolled out Update 2.00 for Dirt 5, which most notably improves the game's Prioritize Frame Rate Mode on Xbox Series X, so the racer should now run as well on the console as it does on the PlayStation 5. At launch, Dirt 5's 120fps-capable performance mode struggled to run competently on Microsoft's newest console, culminating in a drastic visual downgrade compared to the title's performance on PS5.

Tech analysts took note of the issue at launch, highlighting what appeared to be a bug. Essentially, the frame rate-prioritizing performance mode caused visual hitches that affected the prominence of textures, shadows, and more in Dirt 5's Xbox Series X iteration. This same bug did not seem present on the PS5 version of Dirt 5. Thankfully, the issue has since been resolved by Codemasters.

Dirt 5 Update 2.00 introduces a whole host of changes, including those related to visual fixes. Patch notes featured on Codemasters' official website for the racer reveal that visual enhancements should especially be present for the mode that prioritizes frame rate on Xbox Series X. On this matter, the patch notes outline the addition of, "further general visual and performance improvements across the board, including visual updates to the ‘Prioritize Frame Rate’/120hz mode on Xbox Series X." The patch's other visual improvements introduce better FPS support for Image Quality mode on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, fix flickering that croped up during nighttime events, and address an issue that caused game freezes in the Career's Sponsors tab.

It seems the update is already proving a success, with Digital Foundry's John Linneman confirmed the "low geometry bug" that previously affected Xbox Series X's version of Dirt 5 has indeed been corrected. Thus, the racer should be running much more smoothly across all platforms now. Here's to hoping players don't run into further issues. Dirt 5 traveled a rocky road in the lead up to its November launch. For one, it endured multiple delays. Many may recall that Codemasters pushed the title's release on two separate occasions within a one-month timeframe. Things evidently got back on track, though.

And Codemasters isn't just closing out the year on a high note because of its smooth recovery on latest Dirt entry. Two major publishers, Electronic Arts and Take-Two Interactive, have expressed an interest in purchasing get the company before the end of Q1 2021. Take-Two made the first move, followed by EA extending a gatecrashing offer of almost $1 billion. Whether or not EA's "win" here is permanent (seeing as though the company turned a civil acquisition into a hostile bidding war), Codemasters seems like it's sitting pretty right about now.
