Warning! Spoilers ahead for Detective Comics #1033 from Peter J. Tomasi and Brad Walker
In the latest issue of DC Comics' Detective Comics, the new mission of Batman's son Damian has just been revealed. In recent months, Damian Wayne has left his role as The Dark Knight's Robin behind, opting instead to forge his own path and seek his own brand of justice out from his father's shadow and apparent neglect. However, Damian didn't leave without a plan for what he would do next, and he just admitted to his father what he intends to do while on his own in Gotham City.
While Damian might have abandoned the Robin mantle, he's still connected to the Bat-Family and clearly still cares for them. Subsequently, Damian has no choice but to take action when the villain known as Hush kidnaps the majority of the Bat-Family, intending to cut them all up and sell their body parts around the city. Despite the rather large rift between Damian and his father, Batman and the former Robin forge a temporary truce in order to save and get their family members back.
In Detective Comics #1033, Batman and Damian successfully rescue the Bat-Family from Hush. However, as soon as Hush is taken down and apprehended, Damian heads to leave. However, he's stopped by his father before he can depart, as Batman still wishes to reconcile with his son and bring Damian back into the fold. However, Damian isn't ready yet, as he still blames himself for the death of Alfred, who was killed by Bane during the City of Bane event. Additionally, Damian reveals his plans for Batman's Black Casebook, which he had stolen a few issues prior.
Batman's Black Casebook is a special collection of the most inexplicable and challenging cases Batman has come across during his career, and Damian's already solved the first one, uncovering Hush's plot to kill Bruce when they were both still children after the death's of Bruce's parents. Furthermore, Damian confirms to his father he fully intends to solve all of them, saving the last one which he'll solve in his father's memory when the Batman is no more.
As far as solo quests go, this is a pretty epic and intriguing one. Damian is more than capable of taking on the hardest cases his father has ever come across, and he's certainly more than confident that he'll be able to solve them all regardless. It will also be helpful if the Black Casebook is indeed the only thing Damian will be putting his efforts into, as opposed to Batman who has to be focused on present dangers and threats on a daily basis. While some fans may be hoping that the former Robin his dad find a way to bury the hatchet soon in DC Comics, having Damian solving Batman's hardest unsolved cases is a pretty sweet and awesome outcome for the young vigilante in the interim.
