Pokémon GO has recently released an event calendar for the new year, beginning in January. The last time there was a big event released on Pokémon GO, it was the community event that took place from December 12-13. That particular event gave players the ability to easily capture and obtain 20+ Shinies during the course of the event, which is usually insanely rare.
Event calendars are usually released monthly for certain special occasions that will happen on the popular mobile gaming app in the upcoming month. For December the big event was the Community Day that featured the chance to catch multiple Shinies. For November 2020, older Pokemon returned on their specific community days, such as Magmar or Electabuzz.
For January’s events, there will be multiple opportunities to pick up the app again and start playing, according to the Pokemon Go Live website. From the beginning of January to February 1st, players will have the chance to participate in research breakthroughs in discoveries of new Pokemon on the app. Five-star raids will also be bringing back familiar legendaries, such as Ho-Oh, Kyogre, and Groudon – and apparently, a surprise Pokemon will be making an appearance in raids beginning on Tuesday, January 26th at 10 a.m. local time.

In Mega-raids, Mega Charizard Y, Mega Blastoise, and Mega Abomasnow will be appearing. A new Mega-evolved Pokemon will also be appearing on the game on January 19th, one that hasn’t been seen in Pokemon GO before. Pokemon Spotlight Hour will be taking place every Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. local. And to bring in the new year, there will be a return to Pokemon with cute outfits on. That's right, the game will be celebrating with new costumed Pokemon, as well as a return of some Pokemon wearing party hats to welcome 2021.
While there are other smaller events that will be happening during the month of January, but these are the main ones that seem to stand out the most. The Mega Evolutions of Pokemon made their arrival back in August of 2020, so the chance to catch a brand-new one is certainly exciting. Also, what Pokemon fan wouldn’t be excited to catch a Slowpoke wearing 2020 glasses or a Pikachu having a fun party hat? It sounds like a great party. Now, here's hoping that developer Niantic throws in a few extra shiny Pokémon for players to pine after.
