Resident Evil Franchise Getting New Online Portal In Early 2021

0

On an unspecified date in early 2021, Capcom plans to launch a Resident Evil Portal - a brand-new site and go-to source for all things related to the Resident Evil franchise. Previously, there was a slew of official Resident Evil-centric websites that fans could visit for news, community forums, and more. Now it seems Capcom aims to simplify things with an all-in-one website dedicated to its flagship horror series.

Next year is already looking to be a big one for the property in general. Most notably, early 2021 is also set to usher in the release of the next Resident Evil installment, Resident Evil Village. Following months of rumors, speculation, and leaks, Capcom announced the title this past summer during Sony's PlayStation 5 games event. In the months since then, additional details have emerged piecemeal. However, a ransomware attack from several weeks ago culminated in leaked information making the rounds online, specifically with regards to RE Village story spoilers and the like.

Come early 2021, fans from around the globe will be able to digitally congregate via Resident Evil Portal, a new RE-dedicated website. According to Capcom, the site should serve as "the go-to source for the latest info on the Resident Evil series." As such, all of the property's other official websites are being integrated under one umbrella. This includes Biohazard Club96, Resident Evil Ambassador Program, ResidentEvil.net, and Resident Evil Portal. In addition to providing fans with an easily accessible news source, Capcom aims to turn Resident Evil Portal into "a place for players to share their stats with others around the world."

Hopefully, this integrated Resident Evil platform is ready in time for RE Village's forthcoming worldwide launch, which the aforementioned leak suggests will land in April 2021. Unfortunately, that's not all the recent attacks on Capcom's network unleashed onto the web. Many of the publisher's plans for the next several years were also undermined by the hack. Whether or not the company intends to adjust said plans due to the leak remains to be seen.

Resident Evil has been on a roll of late. Arguable missteps with this year's Resident Evil 3 remake aside, the series is as popular as ever. 2017 saw the property return with a new look and feel in the highly acclaimed Resident Evil 7. In 2019, Capcom developers outdid themselves upon releasing Resident Evil 2's remake, which managed to turn a fan-favorite into yet another instant success.

The next Resident Evil entry, Resident Evil Village, is slated to hit PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S platforms in early 2021.
