Cyberpunk 2077: The Best Unique Submachine Guns (& Where to Find Them)
Players are quickly adapting to the world of Cyberpunk 2077, which is a brutal and violent location full of people willing to kill the player at the drop of a hat. Enemies will rush at the player full force with swords, shotguns, rifles, and many other types of weapons in an effort to kill them. This means that players who want to survive will need to know exactly what kinds of weapons they should carry around with them and how to use them effectively.
One very effective weapon choice in the game are the submachine guns. These weapons typically have an incredibly high rate of fire and perform very well at short to mid-ranges, which is where most firefights will happen in Cyberpunk 2077. As enemies close in on players to take them out from point-blank range they will want to have the most versatile weapon type in their inventory will want to pick up a good submachine gun as soon as possible. This guide shows players the best ones in the game and how to find them.
While submachine guns are relatively ineffective at long ranges, they succeed incredibly well at the mid to short ranges. This makes the submachine gun a great counterpart to sniper rifles considering players will be able to cover all ranges effectively and use weapons that use different types of ammo. Many players may find these weapons useless on account of their very low damage stats when compared to assault rifles, but it must be remembered that they have a much higher rate of fire and are more maneuverable close-up. Players who want to be prepared for almost any situation will want a good submachine gun in their inventory.
- Yinglong - This weapon really doesn't have a very high damage stat, which means that a lot of players will probably reject it nearly immediately. If it doesn't deal high amounts of damage then what's the point of keeping it around? Well, the Yinglong does have a few very interesting abilities that make it perfect for dishing out damage against bad guys. For one it deals electrical damage against enemies, which makes it incredibly effective against cybernetic enemies. It also has a chance to shock enemies with every shot, which drastically increases the damage output. There is also a chance that an EMP round will detonate on impact which can help the player out considerably when dealing with cybernetic enemies. By far the best aspect of the Yinglong though is that it is a smart weapon, which means that its bullets will home in on enemies. This means that they will never miss their mark and will therefore deal out damage more effectively than some other weapons. This weapon can only be crafted, so players will need to pick up the blueprints from an enemy during a Suspected Crime activity in the Glen area.
- Problem Solver - Much like the Yinglong, the Problem Solver looks like a pretty big disappointment upon first glance. Sadly unlike the Yinglong it continues to remain a pretty weak weapon compared to all of the other submachine guns. Its initial DPS is actually higher than the Yinglong, but it doesn't have any other advantages to help set it apart from other basic guns in the game. The only additional trait it sports is the chance to inflict bleeding, but that can be found on a bunch of non-unique submachine guns as well and some of those have a higher damage output to begin with. The biggest plus that this weapon has going for it is that it can be acquired early on in the game. All players have to do is pick the Problem Solver up from one of the enemies during the Riders On the Storm mission.
- Buzzsaw - This submachine gun is a joy to play around with as it will absolutely shred through enemies and combines some of the best aspects of both Power weapons and Tech weapons. For a submachine gun, this weapon packs a serious punch, and since it's a Power weapon it will also ricochet off of surfaces. This can make the weapon a very deadly presence already, but once it has been crafted it will randomly acquire either chemical, electrical, thermal, or physical damage, which will drastically increase its capabilities. By far the best aspect of this weapon though is that its bullets can penetrate through light cover just like the charged shots on a Tech gun. This means that players are able to shoot right through cover whenever they wish and decimate any foes that are hiding back there. Players can craft this weapon after picking up the blueprint from an enemy during a Suspected Crime mission in Northside.
- Prototype Shingen: Mark V - This is again another weapon that looks relatively ineffective at first glance due to its abysmal DPS. This one however actually somehow does less damage overall than even the Yinglong, but its true power does not rely on its damage output, but rather its special abilities. For one this is another smart weapon, so it will lock on to enemies and never miss a shot. Furthermore, it also fires off explosive rounds, which means that enemies will get knocked off their feet every time one of these shots makes contact with them. This weapon may already sound massively overpowered, but it does have one more effect that allows it to absolutely decimate everything it comes in contact with. The Mark V can lock on to up to three enemies simultaneously, which in turn allows the player to use it to deal with large groups of enemies. Crowd control is an important aspect of combat in Cyberpunk 2077, and Mark V does a beautiful job of it. Players will find this weapon at the warehouse that the job Gimme Danger takes place. There will be an open (and booby-trapped) shipping container outside that contains this weapon.
- Fenrir - When it comes to submachine guns though the best option available to players is by far the Fenrir. This gun has better stats than just about any other submachine gun in the game and has a wealth of special abilities to bring down enemies more effectively. When using Fenrir players will be able to deal thermal damage to their enemies, but will also have a chance to light them on fire as well. With such a high rate of fire, this means that enemies will almost constantly be on fire while being shot at. On top of this as well the Fenrir has decreased bullet spread, which makes it much more accurate at longer ranges. The biggest downside to the Fenrir is that it has very high recoil, but with its other effects and attachments to correct the recoil it is an incredibly efficient weapon for nearly all situations. Players will find this weapon during the Losing My Religion side job where it will be near the man they rescue.
Cyberpunk 2077 can be played on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 5.
