Can I also wish everyone connected with our club a Happy New Year and let’s hope 2021 will be a far better one for us all and hopefully a slight upturn towards normality.
Looking back over 2020 I think it is a year that will remain in all of our memory banks for a very long time and will be a topic of many a conversation over the coming years.
It has been a season of huge change and adjustment. We have had to make a lot of changes behind the scenes both in terms of processes and personnel. There has had to be a number of cutbacks in a variety of areas, including the playing budget.
Hakan and Terry, along with the rest of their backroom staff, deserve a great deal of credit, not only for embracing things as they are, but being fully focused on the job in hand and developing a group of talented players that look capable of achieving something and a team that we will all hopefully grow to be proud of.
Coping with all the daily changes – brought about by COVID-19 – has been a huge challenge for all of us here at the club and I just pray that this vaccine will be a massive success and it won’t be long before we are able to welcome fans back into the Gallagher and slowly start moving up that road to full recovery.
Despite the challenges that we are facing on and off the park, I would like to thank all of our club’s staff, including the playing staff and all the many volunteers who assist in and around the club, for making sure that every department and section is working correctly.
Also, I would like to thank our loyal supporters for following and supporting our club through this most difficult time. Your financial support has been vital in helping us through this turbulent period.
There is still a long way to go and I know that most of our supporters fully understand the restraints that we are under, but we a very fortunate to have two fully committed owners, good sponsors and some great supporters and I know that together we will all be able to find a way to get to the end of this very difficult season and one day become a force again.
There may be an element of doom and gloom to what we are all facing as a club, but it is all linked into what is going on around us on a day to day basis and there is no bigger fight on our hands at the moment than COVID-19, which together we will all take on and beat.
So let’s get our priorities in place and make sure that we all stay safe and well over the holiday period and stick to the protocols laid down by the Government and beat this beast that is still out there.
Have a good Christmas and, after some rest, we will need to get on with the challenge of making sure that we still have this wonderful club to support through 2021 and the many years that lie ahead for us.
