Newark: Fiery collision with abandoned vehicle delays Amtrak train
NEWARK — Alameda County Fire Department firefighters were at the scene of a collision between a passenger train and an abandoned vehicle on a track, authorities said.
Just after 12:45 p.m., firefighters responded to Stevenson Boulevard and Eureka Drive after hearing that a train with 42 passengers onboard struck the vehicle, which burst into flames at the scene.
There were no reports of injuries at the scene, and firefighters were working with train personnel to coordinate off-loading passengers and moving the affected train car.
In a social-media post, Amtrak’s Capitol Corridor announced that one of its trains was stopped north of Santa Clara due to a vehicle incident.
