Schitt's Creek: Recommending The Best Christmas Movies For Each Of The Main Characters
Based on their personalities, which classic Christmas movies would each of the Schitt's Creek characters love best?
During the holidays, Schitt's Creek has plenty of festive traditions to enjoy - from cookie exchanges and carol singing to big parties (and the Rose's Christmas Party tradition is sure to be carried on by David and Patrick in years to come). However, while it may not have made it into an episode, we're sure that the Roses and their friends (and frenemies) also have some Christmas movie traditions of their own.
After all, who doesn't love curling up in front of a charming Christmas flick at this time of year? But if the main characters from the hit comedy weren't sure what to put on this year to watch with their eggnog, we've got all the best recommendations.
10 Twyla Sands - A Christmas Prince
At the end of the day, Twyla is a sweet and kind romantic with a heart of gold. She doesn't let money affect her, and doesn't believe that money is the route to happiness - which is one of the central lessons of Netflix's surprise hit A Christmas Prince. This movie may be extremely cheesy, but that's part of the charm, and the story of a woman who ends up literally finding her Prince and happily ever after would definitely appeal to Twyla.
9 Jocelyn Schitt - Elf
Jocelyn is definitely someone who would want a Christmas comedy, as her approach is one that is all about keeping things light and fun. She'd appreciate the romance of the story, but would also love to see Buddy's silliness. Jocelyn can be a little conservative in some ways (although not in others, as her pot-smoking and sex life proves!), and Elf would hit just the right note. Plus, given that she and her own son, Mutt, have a difficult relationship, she would definitely appreciate the family angle.
8 Roland Schitt - Home Alone
Roland isn't someone who is known for his subtle sense of humor, or subtlety in general! No, the mayor of Schitt's Creek can be crude and over the top, but he's also got a good heart, and he would love a rewatch of Home Alone.
The slapstick humor suits his approach perfectly, and the sweeter message would also appeal to him. He's not the type to go for schmaltz, but this kind of straightforward comedy would be perfect for him.
7 Patrick Brewer - Love Actually
Patrick is a total romantic, and a little bit of a traditionalist. From the way that he proposes to David to the decision to buy his perfect home, this sweetheart would definitely be the type to watch a Christmas romantic comedy. And it doesn't get more iconic than Love Actually. While a lot has been written about some of the more problematic aspects of this film, at its heart, it is still a beautiful story of all the different kinds of love in the world.
6 Stevie Budd - Klaus
Stevie isn't exactly the traditional type, and would probably find most cheesy Christmas movies to be a little too much. However, she's got her own soft spots, and is always looking for something a little different to broaden her horizons (even if she sometimes decides that they aren't for her, like her ill-fated cabin crew job). Klaus, a sweet and unusual animated film, would be just perfect as something a little festive, but a little different.
5 Ted Mullens - It's A Wonderful Life
Ted is a total romantic, and he loves Christmas traditions (like his cookie exchange). He wouldn't be the type to seek out comedies or new and unusual movies - he'd stick with the classics.
And it's hard to get more classic than It's A Wonderful Life. Someone as giving and considerate as Ted would absolutely love George Bailey, and the way that he always puts other people first, and Ted would no doubt be sobbing by the end (in the best possible way, of course).
4 Johnny Rose - The Man Who Invented Christmas
Johnny Rose has a bit of a soft spot for Christmas, as fans learned when he tried to get his family in the festive spirit. However, he wouldn't necessarily go for the big guns of Christmas movies. He would probably love The Man Who Invented Christmas, though. A film about how Charles Dickens came to write 'A Christmas Carol', the film would appeal to Johnny for several reasons - not least because he may well relate to the Dickens of the film, and the financial crisis that he finds himself in!
3 Moira Rose - Meet Me In St Louis
Moira would probably prefer to watch some kind of Christmas movie that she herself starred in, but failing that, she would be all for a total classic like Meet Me In St Louis, especially because it's a musical. One of the most important things to her is her time singing with the Jazzagals, and she has a surprisingly sweet and traditional streak in her, all of which suggests that a classic Christmas musical like this would suit her perfectly.
2 Alexis Rose - The Holiday
Alexis may have a wild and adventurous life, but over the course of Schitt's Creek, it became clear to fans that she is also a bit of a sweet romantic at heart - and The Holiday manages to combine both of these personality traits wonderfully. A film about two women who house-swap over Christmas to deal with their heartbreak, Alexis will appreciate the bravery of a last-minute flight to another country, and love the romance as well (of course).
1 David Rose - The Night Before
David isn't one for cheesy romance or Christmas traditions, and being part-Jewish, he may want to watch something a little silly, and that isn't purely Christmas-y. That's where The Night Before comes in. A holiday comedy starring Seth Rogen, this is the Hangover of holiday movies, as a group of friends go for one last wild party night before one becomes a father. David would also appreciate the core message, though, of friends who learn that big parties aren't as important as real connection.
