A DC Hero Just Got Their Own Gauntlet To Save The Entire Universe
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Generations Shattered #1 from Dan Jurgens, Robert Venditti, and Andy Schmidt
In the new Generations Shattered from DC Comics, time itself is collapsing after the events of Dark Nights: Death Metal. Large chunks of the DC timeline are disappearing and are being wiped out of existence due to the presence of time storms, and one DC hero has been chosen to unite a team across timelines to save the DC Universe. Kamandi, the Last Boy on Earth is that hero, and an old and dying Booster Gold gives Kamandi a gauntlet to travel through time and hopefully save it all from being erased.
Kamandi is a creation of the amazing Jack Kirby, a boy living after a massive apocalypse that caused animals to become evolved and intelligent, while humans were reverted to existing as savages. As such, Kamandi is known as the Last Boy on Earth. During Generations Shattered, his world is fading out of existence due to a time storm. Thankfully, Kamandi is found by the aforementioned Booster Gold just before the end of everything during this point in time, tasking the boy to finish the mission he is unable to complete.
With not a lot of time left, Booster Gold presents Kamandi with his droid Skeets. In Booster Gold's adventures, Skeets served as his flying droid partner who helped him travel through time, while also offering guidance and information about the various time periods Booster would find himself in. However, Booster has since turned Skeets into a powerful gauntlet to now be worn on Kamandi's arm. Using Skeets, Kamandi is now able to travel through time to locate the team of heroes and warriors needed to save the time stream, despite his obvious lack of experience and fear. With mere seconds to go, Kamandi and his new gauntlet Skeets head into the time stream to save the universe, having no choice but to leave the dying Booster behind.
Just like another powerful gauntlet from Marvel Comics, Kamandi's new gauntlet carries an insane amount of power, which naturally also carries quite a bit of risk. At the moment, it seems as though Skeets is running the show and "driving" for the time being, while Kamandi is along for the ride and grabbing the needed heroes at their destinations. Kamandi ends up recruiting heroes such as Superboy from the Legion of Superheroes, Sinestro from when he was still a Green Lantern, and Batman from the year 1939, who naturally finds time travel immensely unbelievable.
In any case, it will be interesting to see if Kamandi ever gains more agency with his powerful gauntlet, or if he'll continue to just go wherever Skeets says they must. With the team now assembled, hopefully, they'll be able to save time regardless, and Kamandi can just go back to his own time and life once it's restored. However, the being responsible for the time storms known as Dominus has scattered the assembled heroes to different time periods, and Kamandi and Skeets may be the only ones able to reassemble them all together once more as Generations Shattered continues from DC Comics.
