Sonic The Hedgehog Movie Characters, Ranked By Likability
Being one of those movies that created low expectations, but turned out great, Sonic The Hedgehog surpassed everybody’s predictions, as it was extremely faithful to the source material and the CGI surprisingly looked incredible. On top of that, the movie is crammed full of Easter eggs (easy to miss ) and there are some added human characters that never existed in the games.
With Sonic The Hedgehog predominantly being set in the real world, it opened its doors to some of the most interesting characters, including conspiracy theorists, honest cops, and deluded government officials. And with the new characters, the movie accurately portrays some of the most iconic video game characters of all time too, with some of them being more likable than others.
10 Dr. Robotnik
Dr. Robotnik is obviously the most hated character in the movie, and though he’s played brilliantly by Jim Carrey and is a role he was seemingly born to play, the villain hates animals and will literally shoot at them with drones.
Not only is Robotnik quite clearly evil, but he is possibly the most obnoxious villain of all time too, as he talks down to anybody who doesn’t reach his level of genius. There isn’t anything remotely likeable about Robotnik, save for maybe his erratic dance moves.
9 Commander Walters
Working at the Pentagon, Commander Walters is the first dim-witted government official to put forward the idea of Robotnik fronting the hunt when they suspect Sonic of being a weapon. Walters isn’t a terrible person, as he delivers Tom a token of appreciation on behalf of the government for “keeping quiet about recent incidents that never occurred.”
However, when that token of appreciation ends up being a $50 gift voucher for Olive Garden, it’s not only insulting, but it’s such a transparent piece of product placement, especially when Walters starts explaining the never ending pasta bowl.
8 Rachel
Whether or not she still hates Tom was one of the movie’s storylines that was never resolved, but Rachel left quite an impression due to how loud and opinionated she is. Unlike her sister Maddie, she does not approve of Tom’s effort to help Sonic and she just straight up despises him.
Though she is played brilliantly by Natasha Roth and the character is hilarious, her hatred for the adorable character doesn’t exactly resonate with audiences, and it’s pretty satisfying when she gets tied up.
7 Agent Stone
Though Agent Stone isn’t the most likeable character in the movie, it’s easy to feel sorry for him, as he’s essentially Dr. Robotnik’ s errand boy whose primary purpose is to make the villain his coffee.
Robotnik treats him terribly too and it comes off almost like a toxic relationship, as Stone literally aggressively pins himself against the wall when Robotnik is mad at him. Hopefully, with the sequel, Stone can escape the throws of Robotnik and stand on his own.
6 Wade
With the introduction of so many human characters being one of the biggest changes they made when adapting the game, the director has managed to perfectly blend the animation and the live-action, but there are some human characters that are frustratingly dumb.
Wade is completely useless, and even though he’s a cop, he is able to be manipulated and have his arm twisted back by Robotnik. Though his idiocy doesn’t make him dislikable and he does redeem himself by the end of the movie, he annoyingly doesn’t seem to know how grave his mistakes are.
5 Crazy Carl
Crazy Carl is arguably the smartest human character of them all, even smarter than the self-proclaimed genius Dr. Robotnik, as he is the one who is trying to convince everyone that Sonic actually exists, only nobody believes him.
Hilariously calling Sonic the Blue Devil, Crazy Carl is unfairly looked at as exactly that, crazy. Carl is actually a stand up guy who is right more than people know, but nobody will ever take him seriously due to the way he dresses and the way he talks.
4 Sonic
The casting is one of the things that video game movies can learn from Sonic, as Jason Schwartz was terrifically cast as the blue speedster. He makes the character seem charismatic and full of joy, but he isn’t actually the most likeable character.
Sonic is fun and, of course, he’s totally lovable, but sometimes he can a little obnoxious and self-centred, especially when Tom is so helpful, but Sonic just gets him in to more bother than he deserves.
3 Tails
Being one of the things the sequel needs to include, Sonic’s sidekick is only in one scene, and it’s the post credits scene that only lasts for a few moments, but in that minute or so, we get everything we need to know about the fox with two tails.
She’s on the hunt for Sonic and she uses her two tails like propellors to fly. Not only that, but she seems completely free of arrogance, unlike Sonic.
2 Tom
Tom is one of the most likeable characters of the movie because he is one of the few who can actually tolerate Sonic. Though it took him long enough to cosy up to the hedgehog, it’s almost surprising that he did at all, as Sonic made Tom’s life a living hell, even if it was unintentional.
Between getting him almost shot up by drones, making him go on a road trip across America, and getting into bar brawls, Tom must have an incredible amount of patience.
1 Maddie
If it wasn’t for Tom’s other half, he probably wouldn’t have been so kind to Sonic, as Maddie, also known as Pretzel Lady to Sonic, is the more optimistic and open minded of the two.
Not only is she extremely supportive of Tom’s career and often buys him cake way more than she should, but she even gets involved with the dangerous task of helping Sonic get back and fight Dr. Robotnik
