Nick Kyrgios brands Novak Djokovic ‘a tool’ and hits out at Tomic’s girlfriend over Australian Open quarantine demands

NICK KYRGIOS has branded Novak Djokovic a tool for demanding quarantine rules are eased ahead of the Australian Open.

Australia’s strict controls have helped the country record less than 30,000 cases and 909 deaths.

Djokovic, who caught Covid last year, believes the isolation restrictions for tennis stars are too strict.

The Serb’s demands reportedly included fitness and training materials, better food, reduced isolation period and permission to see coaches. Unsurprisingly, they were rejected.

And Kyrgios logged into his Twitter account to take aim at the 17-time Grand Slam winner.

The world number 47 wrote: “Djokovic is a tool.”

Kyrgios also slammed Bernard Tomic’s girlfriend Vanessa Sierra, who has been complaining about a number of issues with quarantine such as food arriving to their room cold and having to wash her own hair.

He added: “I don’t mind Bernie but his Mrs obviously has no perspective, ridiculous scenes.”

Djokovic and other tennis stars moaning about the strict quarantine were given a sharp rebuke by the Premier of Victoria.

Daniel Andrews said: “People are free to provide a list of demands. But the answer is no.

“I know that there’s been a bit of chatter from a number of players about the rules. Well, the rules apply to them as they apply to everybody else, and they were all briefed on that before they came.

“I’m here not so much to be opining about how in touch with the real world these people are. That’s not my job. My job is to make it very clear. People were told what the rules were (before they got here).

“The advice was, ‘It’s not easy, it has to be done properly’. Despite commentary from players about what they’d like to do, it’s about what needs to be done.”

Djokovic caught Covid after an outbreak at the Adria Tour in Croatia and Serbia – which he helped organise.

Kyrgios could meet Djokovic in the first round of the Australian Open, which is due to begin on February 8.
