Cyberpunk 2077 Is Already Half-Off In Amazon Sale | Screen Rant

0

An Amazon sale has helped highlight just how rough a month it has been for one of 2020's most heavily anticipated games, as Cyberpunk 2077 is on sale for half off its regular price for consoles. Cyberpunk 2077 is the futuristic open-world title from developer CD Projekt Red, most famous for its work on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt prior to the former game's launch. Unfortunately, early promise and high expectations helped accelerate a precipitous downfall for the game's public perception, as the Cyberpunk 2077 launch period became one of gaming's most memorable modern messes.

By now, many consumers are familiar with the story of Cyberpunk 2077's bug-riddled launch and the controversy surrounding its review period, which saw critics deliberately given PC codes in an attempt to get the most positive analyses also the most prominent prior to launch. Review aggregate website OpenCritic accused Cyberpunk 2077 of lying, and since then the game has also been taken off the PlayStation Store. CD Projekt Red recently issued an apology and explanation about what went wrong for Cyberpunk 2077, updating fans on the game's development roadmap for 2021, which includes a priority on fixing the game.

Unfortunately, fixing the game's performance and fixing its reputation are two different things, and it may be too late for the latter - just over one month after the game's release, Amazon has Cyberpunk 2077 on sale for half off its normal price on consoles. The game's PC version is also on sale for 33% off its regular price, reflecting the fact that Cyberpunk 2077 on PC is almost an entirely different experience to the mess that many console gamers have had to deal with since launch.

It's certainly not unusual for even high-profile games to be heavily discounted by retailers, but it's usually much further into a game's life cycle than what's happening with Cyberpunk 2077 on Amazon right now. That's very likely a reflection of the game's critical reception and current status among fans. Rumors about turbulent times ahead for CD Projekt Red - whether its due to the Polish government stepping in or the potential of a buyout - may also be playing a role in how the game is advertised and sold in coming months.

All of that being said, however, there are still plenty of people who have found enjoyment in what Cyberpunk 2077 has to offer. If players can look past the many bugs and unfinished feel, Cyberpunk 2077 is still an ambitious open-world RPG with some strong moments. Fans who were always going to wait for the game to go on sale can still pick it up now ahead of schedule, either to wait out the launch period until fixes are rolled out or to experience what has so many people talking in early 2021.
