Kristy Swanson Roasted For Pro-Trump Home Alone 2 Tweet

0

The star of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie, Kristy Swanson, took to Twitter to defend Donald Trump against "cancel culture," and Twitter users are not here for it. Swanson rose to prominence after capturing the titular role in the 1992 Buffy the Vampire Slayer film, but she played smaller roles in 80s John Hughes classics Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Pretty in Pink before her big break. Hughes also wrote and produced Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.

Trump's cameo in the latter film has recently become a topic of conversation on Twitter. After Trump was impeached (for the second time) for inciting the recent U.S. capitol riots, fans of Home Alone 2 called for him to be digitally removed from the film. One Twitter user took matters into his own hands, replacing Trump with a mute, warped figure in the Plaza Hotel scene. Macaulay Culkin tweeted "Bravo." in response to the edited clip. Other users suggested Joe Biden should digitally replace Trump in the film.

But Kristy Swanson tweeted in support of Donald Trump, suggesting she should also be officially removed from Pretty in Pink and Ferris Bueller's Day Off to protest cancel culture. Twitter users, including some celebrities, were quick to criticize her remarks. Jane Lynch (Glee) roasted Swanson's lack of recent and relevant film roles by replying, "I'm sorry. Who are you?" and Yvette Nicole Brown (Community) responded, "You were in those films?"

Swanson doesn't seem to feel too strongly about her roles in Pretty in Pink and Ferris Bueller's Day Off either if she's willing to give them up for Donald Trump, and her misspelling of Ferris Bueller shows how much thought she put into the tweet. The most likely reality is that she won't be officially edited out of either film (and Trump won't be edited out of Home Alone 2 either). But Swanson's tweet is more a public display of support for Trump, who she calls "MY PRESIDENT," rather than a serious call to be removed from the films.

Swanson hasn't starred in any major films or TV shows in quite a long time, and her tweet likely won't help her score any upcoming roles. But perhaps she's not looking for any. If anything, the tweet provided some solid entertainment (for Twitter users, maybe not for Swanson) in the form of memes and reactions to what many felt was a laughable take from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer star.
