KATHMANDU: Three schools in Bangad Kupinde Municipality of Salyan district have been shut down following the detection of COVID-19 among teachers and students of the schools, on Sunday.

As many as 16 new cases of the infection were detected across the three schools of the municipality, which has prompted the authorities to suspend in-person teaching learning within the school premises for a week.

It has been learnt that 46 samples had been collected from the schools for testing, among which 16 came out positive, Govinda Kumar Pun, mayor of the municipality, was quoted as saying in Rastriya Samachar Samiti.

Swab samples of all the students, teachers, and staffers have been assembled and dispatched to the Surkhet-based PCR laboratory for testing,” he added. “The schools will not come into operation until all the individuals associated with the schools test negative for the respiratory contagion.”

Many of the schools in the country have resumed in-person classes amid decreasing cases of the infection. However, schools remain at higher risk of COVID-19.
