Kyogre has made its return to raid battles in Pokemon Go. This guide will provide players with a list of possible counters to capture these Pokemon for the Hoenn Celebration Research. To celebrate the 5th anniversary of Pokemon Go and the 25th anniversary of the Pokemon series, Pokemon Go is hosting a slew of events all throughout the month of January. For starters, every week has featured a new collection event for players to participate in. It began with Unova, then Sinnoh, and has now made its way to Hoenn. Although, Hoenn brought along an extra challenge called the Hoenn Celebration Research. For this event, players will need to capture 2 Kyogre's and Groudon's, which can only be done by completing raid battles. The Pokemon mythos states that Kyogre has the ability to expand the oceans, sending the land back into the depths where they began. Groudon and Kyogre are the respective legendaries of both Pokemon Ruby and Pokemon Sapphire, the third generation games that take place in the Hoenn region. Now, they have made their grand return to raid battles and are still extremely challenging to defeat. There are a few Pokemon that are perfect for taking down Kyogre. This guide will show players the best counter Pokemon for winning these raid battles.
Kyogre is only a Water-type Pokemon, making it much easier to point out its weaknesses. Water-type Pokemon are weak to both Electric and Grass-type moves. Here are some Pokemon that will make it much easier to bring it down.
- Electivire with Thunder Shock and Wild Charge
- Zapdos with Thunder Shock and Thunderbolt
- Raikou with Thunder Shock and Wild Charge
- Magnezone with Spark and Wild Charge
- Mega Abomasnow with Razor Leaf and Energy Ball
- Mega Venusaur with Vine Whip and Frenzy Plant
Grass-types are possibly the best to bring to this challenge since Kyogre can't do much against them but a Pokemon like Magnezone with its Steel-typing makes it much easier to tank its attacks. Although, outside of just countering the Pokemon, the player will need to make sure they team up with a sufficient amount of other players. Try jumping into the raid battle only when there are 6 other players available. Teamwork is much more important than countering the Pokemon. This also helps if the player has low-level Pokemon. Other players can carry you to victory.
