MCU Phase 3 Video Shows How Marvel Movie Scenes Compare to the Comics
A new Marvel Cinematic Universe video examines some of the biggest moments from Phase 3 and shows how they compare to the comic scenes that inspired them. Almost right from the start, it was apparent that the MCU would be unlike any film franchise that came before. By creating a bunch of smaller franchises that exist within the same larger world, the MCU helped inspire the current craze of shared universes. The MCU has broken down their projects by Phases, with each one seemingly reaching bigger heights than the one before.
Currently, Marvel is kicking off Phase 4, but Phase 3 is still fresh in fans' minds. It began in 2016 with Captain America: Civil War and ended in 2019 with Spider-Man: Far From Home. While Phases 1 and 2 were ambitious in their own ways, Phase 3 took things even further, featuring a total of 11 movies compared to the previous eras' six. The MCU's Phase 3 really brought the franchise some of its biggest movies yet, as it capped off the Infinity Saga in epic fashion. Comic book fans found a lot to enjoy, as Phase 3 featured plenty of crowd-pleasing moments from the source material.
A new video from The Avengers' social media account takes a closer look at some of those comic book moments, starting with those found in 2018's Avengers: Infinity War. From Bruce Banner's (Mark Ruffalo) warning about Thanos (Josh Brolin) to Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) passing on the Captain America shield to Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) in Avengers: Endgame, this video covers big scenes from the back half of Phase 3. Check it out down below.
Watching this video, it's interesting to see how the movie moments compare to those from the comics. Some stick quite closely to the source material, like Steve specifically passing the shield to Sam. Others, like the reunion between Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) from Ant-Man and the Wasp, look quite different. Plus, there are the moments that are small but fun Easter eggs, like Thanos using the Reality Stone against the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Phase 4 will be different but no less epic, as it features the franchise's expansion into Disney+. Though the movies have struggled to get off the ground because of the coronavirus pandemic, the latest era of the MCU has officially kicked off with streaming show WandaVision. Phase 4 might not contain a massive movie like Endgame, but it's bound to feature new surprises, new characters, and a new direction for the MCU. Along the way, expect to see more comic book moments brought to life like the ones shown above.
