Swim For Sarah [Swim Diesel]

If you watch my Swim Diesel online presence at all you might have caught wind that my dearest Auntie Sarah passed away after a long and courageous battle against Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM). For reference - this is the same cancer that claimed Gord Downie.

My Auntie was a gem. Everyone absolutely loved her. She housed me on more than one occasion in Montreal when I came for swims. She watched me compete at the FINA Masters World Championships. She watched me compete at Nationals at Parc Jean-Drapeau. She had an appreciation for athletic activity and took genuine interest in what I was up to. She was always ready to laugh and love. I believe that she lived life to her fullest and her having to succumb to something that she didn't deserve has caused many to reflect.  

Know that this day would come for some time I began to get a stirring in my heart. Because of the sport of swimming I have come to meet a lot of people and have a little bit of a swimming network that reaches across North America. I once had dreams of making money from swimming, beginning with the online persona of Swim Diesel and trying my hand at running a swim series. I never made a nickel from these things... but on this side of all things I can't help but believe that making money for myself was never the point. 

As I mentioned in my post on Friday, I plan on using what little presence I have for something other than myself. I don't how or what... but I will be finding ways to raise money to donate to the "Sarah Kenny Research Support Fund". Sarah herself wrote about this last year. Please have a read. 

And so, while nothing is concrete, I created a social media presence specific to that cause. I will continue on with Swim Diesel ... and use it to continue to bring awareness to this new journey. The stirring has lead to a purpose, undefined as it may be.
