10 Movies To Watch If You Like The Flight Attendant | ScreenRant
When HBO Max came onto the scene, one of the first things it introduced was the Kaley Cuoco-led series The Flight Attendant. Based on a novel by Chris Bohjalian of the same name, the series revolves around a flight attendant who wakes up in a hotel room next to a dead body.
Since its release, Cuoco has been highly praised for her lead performance in the series. The show also received two Golden Globes nods recently. And while fans wait for the show’s second season, it would be fun to watch a few similar movies.
10 Jackie Brown
People often overlook this Quentin Tarantino film, but it really deserves more attention. Just like on the show, this movie centers around a flight attendant (the titular character) who also gets into a dicey situation. This time, however, Jackie (Pam Grier) actively participates in the crime, which involves smuggling money.
Instead of being questioned by the FBI, Jackie ends up being investigated by the ATF. And just like in the series, Jackie Brown is also sort of a dark comedy, one that also happens to star Samuel Jackson, Robert De Niro, and Michael Keaton.
9 Killers
Killers is really a romantic comedy, but it comes with an assassination plot twist. In the movie, a man and woman meet during a vacation. Things move quickly between them and they impulsively decide to tie the knot. When they get home, however, things go south rather quickly. They soon realize that their neighbors are assassins who have been hired to take them out all along.
Safe to say though, the couple doesn’t end up dead like Michiel Huisman’s Alex Sokolov. The cast includes Ashton Kutcher, Katherine Heigl, Tom Selleck, Katheryn Winnick, and even Usher.
8 The Nice Guys
This 2016 movie is as much a murder mystery as it is a classic buddy comedy. Set in Los Angeles during the '70s, the film stars Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe as a mismatched team of private eyes who investigate the mysterious death of a porn actress who goes by the alias Misty Mountains.
During the course of their investigation, they come across a young girl who mysteriously vanishes. And just like in the series, the case takes a bizarre turn that includes strippers dressed up like mermaids and a possible government conspiracy.
7 Amanda Knox
We thought it only makes sense to include this Netflix documentary on the list since Cuoco’s Cassandra mentions her at the beginning of the series. And there are some similarities between the series’ main plot and Knox's case.
In November 2007, Knox was arrested after being suspected of having a role in the murder of roommate Meredith Kercher. Aside from Knox, her then-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, was also taken into police custody. At the end of the trial, both were found guilty and Knox served jail time until her conviction was overturned and she got to return home.
6 Fargo
It’s hard to believe that it’s already been 25 years since this crime thriller was released. Fargo stars William H. Macy as Jerry Lundegaard, a financially strapped man who plots with two men to kidnap his wife so that he can get some ransom money from his rich father-in-law.
However, things don’t go according to plan from the very beginning and dead bodies start turning up. To make things worse, Jerry soon finds a very eager pregnant cop (Frances McDormand) right on his trail, and it seems she’ll stop at nothing to solve the murders.
5 The Grand Budapest Hotel
There is consensus that The Grand Budapest Hotel is West Anderson’s most brilliant cinematic piece and rightfully so. Set in the 1930s, this Oscar-winning movie tells the story of a concierge named Gustave H. (Ralph Fiennes), who goes above and beyond to ensure that all of the guests’ needs are met. This may even include performing sexual favors for some of the hotel’s esteemed clients.
However, when one of them dies, Gustave finds himself implicated in a murder. Not only that, he becomes the recipient of a highly valued painting.
4 Mr. Right
In Mr. Right, Anna Kendrick plays a woman who gets caught in an assassination plot after the guy (Sam Rockwell) she falls for turns out to be a former assassin. Just like Cassie, Kendrick’s character finds herself stepping into a darker world. That said, there’s still some attraction because Rockwell’s character is somewhat a good guy, choosing to kill the people who hire his services instead of the target themselves.
Admittedly, this is not one of Kendrick’s most successful movies. However, for anyone who enjoys dark comedy, it’s worth checking out.
3 The Voices
This 2014 dark comedy stars Ryan Reynolds as an office guy who pursues his crush (Gemma Arterton), only to get stood up on their date. Things get sinister after he debates about whether or not to commit murder and without adding any spoilers, there may or may not be some scenes in this movie in which Reynolds has a normal conversation with a severed head.
This is certainly not the type of movie that anyone would normally associate with Reynolds, but his performance stands out.
2 The Hangover Movies
When The Hangover movies started out, the main characters in the story (portrayed by Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis, and Ed Helms) wake up from a crazy hangover, only to find themselves incapable of remembering what happened the night before.
To make matters worse, the men were supposed to be attending a stag party and upon waking up, they also realize that the groom (Justin Bartha) has gone missing. This storyline may sound similar to The Flight Attendant. That said, there’s a lot of mayhem and comedic moments here.
1 The Morning After
The Morning After is a 1986 film that pretty much shares the same storyline as The Flight Attendant. Instead of a flight attendant though, the woman at the center of the story is a washed-up, actress (Jane Fonda) with an alcohol addiction who ends up waking up next to a dead man.
As she tries to piece together the events that led to the murder, she finds that the only person who could ultimately clear her name is an ex-policeman (Jeff Bridges). Besides Fonda and Bridges, the movie also stars The Addams Family’s, Raul Julia.
