90 Day Fiancé: Clues Brandon Is Lying About Being Too Poor To Move Out Of Parents' Home
Episode 11 of 90 Day Fiancé season 8 was all about Brandon Gibbs and Julia Trubkina’s fears over a possible baby. With Julia feeling nauseous, Brandon's first decision was to go tell his parents Ron and Betty about it even before doing a pregnancy test. While TLC viewers called out the scenes as being staged, many also wondered why Brandon’s excuse for letting his mom and dad know was the fact that he and Julia stayed under their roof. Also, he couldn’t afford to move out right now, let alone with a baby. However, as far as fans know, 90 Day Fiancé star Brandon does have a day job. So is he lying about being poor? And if so, why?
Season 8 of 90 Day Fiancé introduced quite a few new faces to reality TV, amongst whom were 27-year-old Brandon who was engaged to 26-year-old Julia. After having lived entirely different lives before meeting, Russian Julia found Brandon’s Virginia farm life a little difficult to adjust to readily. It was during his introduction that Brandon revealed how traveling to Russia to ask her to date him — to France, where his parents would meet Julia’s folks and to Iceland where he proposed — took a toll on his wallet. The 90 Day Fiancé newbie Brandon admitted to having spent almost $10k in seven months, but also that he’d told Julia that he “wasn’t rich or anything.” But TLC viewers felt something amiss in Brandon’s narrative about being in debt because he does seem to have a comfortable lifestyle.
As reported earlier, Brandon had revealed that he works “a full-time job as a pest control technician” in an interview. Apart from that, Brandon also does odd jobs on his parents’ Hummingbird Acres Farm to lend a helping hand for giving him shelter during his financially difficult times. According to TheHollywoodGossip, being a pest control worker could be fetching him up to $40,000 a year, considering how dedicatedly Brandon leaves for his job every day in the pre-dawn darkness. Now, considering the lowest estimated cost of the flight tickets for these trips, i.e. Russia ($1,900), France for both him and Julia, ($2,000) and Iceland for both ($900), the stay, internal travel, her K-1 expenses, and the “support” he provided to her, Brandon may have actually spent $10,000 in total.
However, considering Brandon has lived with his parents all his life, and the fact that apart from their Virginia farm, Ron and Betty too have day jobs, the 90 Day Fiancé star doesn’t seem to have used much of his savings until he met Julia. Keeping this in mind, a rented apartment close to Brandon’s home could cost somewhere between $600 - $1,200 for a comfortable two-bedroom space, per Apartments.com. Given Brandon’s salary, and also his 90 Day Fiancé earnings which are usually $1,000 - $1,200 per episode, moving out doesn’t sound too much of a hassle.
Brandon had certainly not revealed the total amount of debt he really was in. He also didn't state if this “bit of debt” had also come from sources other than money spent on Julia outside the show. The couple was also spotted together recently at the Richmond airport, hinting at Julia and Brandon being happily married by now. Seeing Julia in a chic new kitchen, which boasts of newer appliances, cabinets, and countertops, in her latest Instagram videos has also prompted rumors of Brandon and her having finally moved out. And if this swanky new place is not being paid for by debt-ridden Brandon, perhaps it’s 90 Day Fiancé parents Ron and Betty who may have given in to their only son's demands and helped him out.
90 Day Fiancé airs Sundays at 8 pm ET on TLC.
