GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS VS. LOS ANGELES LAKERS NEWS AND NOTES
The Lakers are still listed as the favorites to win the title this season, but they’re in a bit of a free fall at the moment. They’ve lost five of their past seven games, which has dropped them to just third place in the Western Conference. They’re also down to just fifth in Net Rating.
Of course, their poor recent stretch is due to the absence of Anthony Davis. He’s currently dealing with a calf injury, and he’s expected to miss another three weeks or so. They’ve been outscored by approximately six points per 100 possessions over their past seven games, which have all come with Davis out or limited.
The Lakers did get a little bit of help back in their last contest with Dennis Schroder returning to the lineup, and they recorded a nine-point win over the Blazers. While Portland is a solid team, the Warriors represent a solid step up in competition. They rank 10th in the league in Net Rating, while Portland is all the way down in 21st.
The Warriors got off to a slow start this season, but they have started to figure things out. Kelly Oubre, in particular, has played drastically better recently after a horrendous shooting performance early in the year. He’s increased his 3-point percentage each month this season, moving from 4.8% in December to 27.5% in January to 44.0% in February.
Oubre is one of the Warriors’ most important players this season, so it’s not surprising that their play has improved concurrently with Oubre. They’ve gone 8-6 during February, and our betting model believes they’re being undervalued in tonight’s matchup. The Lakers are currently listed as three-point favorites, but our Model has the Warriors winning this contest outright more than 60% of the time. That makes them a clear value.
