10 Questionable Workplace Choices In New Girl | ScreenRant
Jess and her friends made a lot of terrible decisions when it came to their careers in New Girl. They often treated work more like a hobby and were rarely professional when they were doing their jobs. The situations that arose during business hours weren't issues that viewers often see in the real world and the chaos added to the overall enjoyment of the show.
In most cases, their actions inside and outside of the workplace would get them fired. However, most of the time, the group managed to get away with it. There were some mistakes that were so bad, fans didn't know whether to laugh at or feel sorry for the characters.
10 Jess Hops Her Boss’s Fence
In hopes of fitting in with the other teachers at her school, Jess gives into some peer pressure. Nick originally tries to get Jess into their friend group by giving out free school supplies. When that fails, he bribes them with free drinks from the bar, but Jess still feels the need to go along with their wild schemes. She and Nick end up hopping the fence and sneaking around her boss's backyard. Thankfully, her boss assumes she's there to see his new hot tub. Jess and Nick did have to take a dip with him to sell their story, but Jess got out of the situation with no work repercussions.
9 Cece Tries To Bartend For Nick
To give Nick time to plan the perfect birthday for Jess, Cece covers his shift at the bar. Cece is still learning how to bartend and it's not something that comes easy. Despite Schmidt coming along to help, the shift turns out to be a catastrophe. They end up busting a keg and spraying it all over Cece's angry co-worker. It all works out in the end, and Cece and Schmidt are able to get to Jess' party right on schedule. But letting Cece serve drinks by herself, probably wasn't the best decision on the manager's part.
8 Nick Convinces Jess Her Student Is A Killer
In one of the most hysterical episodes of the series, Nick goes undercover as Pepperwood to spy on the students in Jess's class. He manages to convince her that one of them is a serial killer and she's the next target.
Things get crazy when Nick ends up trapped in the student's shed looking for proof and Jess runs to his rescue. But he wasn't a killer, he was just an odd guy. It was a bit shocking that Jess didn't get reported for breaking and entering into her student's house.
7 Winston's Home Inspection Goes Awry
The time had finally come for Winston to follow his dream and become a police officer. All he had to do was get through the home inspection and he'd be good to go. This proves to be easier said than done when Jess confesses to the rest of the loft that she has a bag of meth in her closet. They spend the episode trying to dispose of it under the inspector's nose, without getting Winston involved. When Jess takes the fall for the drugs to protect Winston, the inspector relays that they were aquarium rocks. This was one work-related disaster that could've been avoided.
6 Elizabeth And Cece Show Up At Schmidt's Office Party
Mixing work and personal life is never a good idea, which Schmidt learns the hard way. As a way to create chaos, Schmidt's co-worker makes sure Cece and Elizabeth show up to their office party. Unbeknown to each girl, Schmidt was dating both of them at the same time. He spends the night trying to keep his secret under wraps, which involves Cece posing as a caterer and Elizabeth under the impression that she and Schmidt are acting like strangers for a roleplay. Schmidt's anxiety is off the charts the entire night, but to his co-worker's disappointment, neither girl finds out about the other.
5 Nick Throws Guys' Night At The Bar
When Nick starts sleeping with his new boss, he starts becoming more responsible on the job. He comes up with an idea called, "Guys' Night" where men drink for free. It still doesn't seem plausible they made a profit, but the biggest roadblock of the event happened earlier in the day.
Jess drives Nick to the hardware store so he can get supplies for the bar, but he ends up knocking Jess out with a plank of wood. She still attends "Guys' Night" to support Nick, but is heartbroken when his boss makes out with him right in front of her. Even without Jess present, someone kissing their boss in the middle of shift isn't the most professional thing to do.
4 Jess Tries To Interview For A Job During Cece's Crisis
Sometimes in life, the best decision is to triage. However, that's a concept that Jess doesn't understand. Determined to take care of everything at once, she attempts to interview for her new job, solve Cece's wedding issue, and visit her father all at the same time. She spends the day constantly driving around town going back and forth between all three locations. When Jess returns to the classroom the kids are running amuck. Her ability to get them under control ends up landing her the job, but it's not realistic that she would have been able to pull everything off.
3 Everyone Shows Up High To A Party Full Of Winston's Fellow Cops
Winston wasn't clicking with the other cadets, so Cece suggests that he try to spend more time with them. Winston brings them all along to a party full of cops and cops-in-training, unaware that his friends are high. They leave Winston to fend for himself, rather than helping him bond with his co-workers and end up causing a huge commotion. However, their drug-induced state works in Winston's favor and he uses it to his advantage. He teams-up with the other cadets to give Cece, Nick, and Coach a scare. Still, none of it was probably smart considering Winston's line of work.
2 Schmidt Seduces His Boss
After sending him several mixed signals, Schmidt tries to figure out if his boss is coming onto him. He attempts to drop hints around the office to get a better idea of the situation and finally gets a clear answer when she makes out with him in the parking garage. But workplace romances are rarely a good idea, especially when one person is the other's direct superior. Schmidt misunderstands what his boss means when she tells him to join a conference call and he ends up dancing in his underwear over video chat for a room full of people.
1 Jess Tries Too Hard To Bond With Her Students
Jess goes to great lengths to get the students at her school to like her. After becoming principal, she tries to gain the affection of the popular crowd. She even brings Nick in to discuss his book when the students express interest in it. However, they start calling her "PJ" and ditching class since they believe Jess is their friend and will let them do whatever they want. Jess loses control of the situation when all the students run off to help Nick brainstorm book ideas rather than attending an assembly.
