Gurdeep Singh defeated his nearest rival by a huge margin as he secured 103 out of 145 votes in the the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, where his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, holds 94 seats. Singh, who hails from Swat district, got extra votes from members of the parliament supporting the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party.
