How to Defeat Deathsquitos in Valheim | Screen Rant

0

Everyone knows the annoyance of dealing with mosquitoes, and Valheim's developers have decided to crank that annoying factor up with the inclusion of Deathsquitos, aggressive flying creatures found on the Plains in the tenth Norse world. Deathsquitos are small and quick, making them difficult to hit and making it easier for them to overwhelm a player. They live up to their name, often doing about 70 damage per hit, meaning they can easily kill an underprepared player in a single attack or two. However, they are extremely fragile, with only around 10 HP each, and players can also defeat them with a single hit.

Deathsquitos are currently the only buglike creature in Valheim, making them easy to spot, but they also emit loud, buzzing noises at all times that will alert the player one is getting close. They will divebomb the player from above, so players should always have one eye on the skies in the Plains biome. Deathsquitos have been notoriously troublesome for players. Despite their low HP, they are fast, tiny, and difficult to hit, which makes them difficult to kill. Players looking to defeat these creatures will need to make sure they maintain a distance from the pests, wear protective gear, and choose the best weapons for the job. Here's how to kill Deathsquitos in Valheim.

The easiest way to avoid being killed by a Deathsquito in Valheim is to stay away from them. Players who see one at a distance may choose to take a longer route and go around the creatures or wait for them to despawn. However, this is not always practical. Moreover, it is always possible a Deathsquito will see the player character first and attack before the player notices the Deathsquito.

Players can run away from Deathsquito attacks. As long as they are not encumbered by weapons or heavy armor, Deathsquitos will always miss when they try to attack an unencumbered, running player from behind.

When they attack, Deathsquitos will either fly directly at the player character or fly toward the player, go up and around, and attack again from above. It is easiest to kill them when they are in their attack "run," making a straight line toward the player character.

Players can choose whether to fight a Deathsquito with a melee weapon or at range with a bow. There are pros and cons to each approach. Either way, players won't need fancy weapons; any weapon above a Crude Bow should be adequate to fight these particular creatures.

Generally, maintaining distance is a good idea, and players can shoot Deathsquitos out of the sky fairly easily with a bow and arrows. Ranged fighting is preferable for these creatures. Unfortunately, it is more difficult to block when using a bow, so players will need to be fairly confident in their ability to time the shot and stay away from the Deathsquito as it advances.

Sometimes, it is easier to kill Deathsquitos with a melee weapon, particularly a sword. Players should also equip a shield when fighting Deathsquitos with melee attacks. This will allow them to block and avoid the brunt of a Deathsquito hit. However, Deathsquitos are fairly small, so hitting the target may be more difficult, and players may spend a lot of time blocking bites rather than dealing damage.

When they are defeated, Deathsquitos are guaranteed to drop Needles, which are used to craft Needle Arrows and the Porcupine mace weapon, one of the best weapons in Valheim. There is also around a 1% chance one will drop a Deathsquito trophy, which players can place in their home.
