On 3 March, the House of Representatives passed H.R.1 For the People Act of 2021 largely along party lines by a vote of 220-210. All GOP lawmakers and one Democratic representative, Bennie Thompson of Mississippi, voted against the legislation, which was previously denounced as a "federal government takeover" by the Republicans.
