RuPaul's Drag Race UK Recap: Lawrence Accuses Ellie of Sabotage
RuPaul's Drag Race UK season 2 continues with another gag-worthy episode. This week, only five queens are left, and tensions rise as Ellie Diamond has a huge fight with both A'Whora and Lawrence Chaney. In the Werk Room, Ellie Diamond asks the other queens if they expected her to make it this far in the competition. A'Whora says that she expected Ellie to make it this far, but that she also expects Ellie to go home next so that she, Lawrence, Bimini, and Tayce be the top four. Bimini Bon-Boulash then points out that Ellie is the only queen left who doesn't have a badge.
Ellie says she is tired of the other queens acting as if she is not a threat. A'Whora rightfully says, "When I saw what you were wearing in [last week's] challenge, I was not surprised." A'Whora is often cruel but she is rarely wrong. Ellie looked pretty in the design challenge last week but it was a very predictable lewk. And yet, A'Whora loves to poke the teddy bear but does not like it when the teddy bear fights back. The episode moves on to the Masc for Masc Singer mini-challenge. Ellie Diamond wins and uses this opportunity to create some truly gag-worthy drama.
Ellie chooses the line-up for the stand-up comedy challenge on the RuPaul's Drag Race UK main stage, and she purposefully puts A'Whora first and Tayce last given that those are the toughest spots. A'Whora is angry at Ellie and, for some reason, Lawrence Chaney is also furious with her. It is hard to follow, but it seems like there is a lot of underlying resentment between Lawrence and Ellie. In the challenge, A'Whora says some crass jokes while performing the act of bottoming. Bottoming jokes are like catnip for a drag queen... they cannot resist. She does the same basic sex jokes told by drag queens in bars all over the world. For someone who does not do stand-up, it makes perfect sense to go with this choice.
Ellie Diamond has the exact right energy for her act, as she isn't afraid to look RuPaul right in the eye, unlike A'Whora who was staring at the floor. Her routine does not have many punchlines, but it is well thought out and her performance energy is great. Bimini has some of the best jokes of the night. Lawrence is so charming and charismatic, which is really helpful in stand-up. She is, however, taking forever to finish. The runway category is stoned on the runway. A'Whora looks very cool but it is more odd than successful. Ellie Diamond looks pretty but it looks a little like a Canada's Drag Race B-side. Bimini looks gross and amazing! She is literally popping zits as she struts. Lawrence is in a gorgeous pink crystallized outfit. Tayce looks fantastic as always.
In the Untucked lounge, A'Whora says she is so furious with Ellie that she can not even look at her. Lawrence continues to pile on, implying that Ellie played this game dirty, and saying that RuPaul could even clock the shade. They have bullied this girl for not being a good enough competitor and now they are hounding her for playing the game too hard. Tayce (who actually has a legitimate reason to be offended, unlike Lawrence) says, "It's Drag Race. It's a race to the end baby and only one of us can win. If someone is gonna chuck a marble underneath you and you trip and fall, well... you should have looked at the floor."
Not surprisingly, Bimini wins this week's challenge. A'Whora is in the bottom and in quite a shock, Tayce is there with her instead of Ellie. Tayce and A'Whora both deliver a spectacular lip-sync performance, but A'Whora is asked to sashay away. Now, four queens remain.
RuPaul's Drag Race UK season 2 airs Thursdays at 11am PT / 2pm ET exclusively on WOW Presents Plus in the US and select territories worldwide, day-and-date with its international airing on BBCiPlayer in the UK.
