Can the Pelicans Continue Hitting Overs?
The Heat vs. Pelicans on Thursday night is an over game if there ever has been an over game. New Orleans going over is one of the craziest trends in a very long time. They’ve gone above the number in nine of their past 10 and 20 of their last 24, and 25 of their past 29 games, including last night against the Bulls. Second of a back-to-back if you want to plug that into the machine, they’re 5-0 on the over in the second of a back-to-back. Miami’s offensive numbers have been much better of late, so they can definitely score against the Pels. This is a trend worth riding until the trend is wholly bucked. New Orleans’ defense has been dismal while their offense has been tremendous.
The only real worry here is both teams play at a very slow pace. Over their last 10 games, Miami is ranked 29th in pace of play while the Pelicans are middle of the pack, slightly better than average at 13th. New Orleans is shooting it really well, though they didn’t shoot great last night, especially in the first half. But they were able to come back and make that a game late against Chicago. And again, the trends tell us over, over, over, and the line movement tells us over, over, over. Why fade these two categories and go against a very likely outcome?
