Fortnite Turbo Building Deserves To Be Disabled (But Not Removed)

0

Building is the core mechanic of Fortnite, but it has gone way too far and it should be disabled in regular game modes. Instead of being a shooter that features building, Fortnite has become a game focused entirely about its building, and that's not a good thing for casual players, especially as Fortnite continues to regularly fluctuate between positive changes and stagnation.

When turbo building was first introduced to Fortnite, it was intended to streamline the building process - and it has been an overall great addition to the game. But with Fortnite's current skill-based matchmaking system, it doesn't take very long for players to find themselves matched up with people who have spent hours upon hours practicing their building in creative modes, mastering the feature. The result is the vast majority of gunfights quickly turn into people building massive structures immediately as soon as they see another player. It's not particularly fun and it has likely ruined Fortnite's casual play for a lot of players.

Many players have proposed eliminating skill based matchmaking as a solution to this problem, but the easiest solution is to simply dial Fortnite back in time and disable turbo building in the regular Solo, Duo and Squad game modes. While it would indisputably be a controversial decision, disabling turbo building in these game modes would immediately put an end to players sculpting the Eighth Wonder of the World any time they encounter someone. It would be a radical change, but building would then revert to being a complementary feature to the shooting, rather than being the sole feature of the game. But Fortnite's turbo building shouldn't be completely removed from the game, either.

Turbo building is essential to competitive Fortnite, where players are exceptionally skilled and the game is entirely about the building. For players who want to continue playing this way, the game already has competitive Arena playlists. By leaving Fortnite's Turbo Building active in those playlists, the player base would naturally filter itself. Players wanting to experience a much more serious playstyle with hardcore building would move into the Arena playlists while players who just want to play some Fortnite games casually would be able to remain in the regular game modes.

Something needs to be done about the building in Fortnite at this stage. It's borderline out of control and it has actively pushed players away from the game. It's just not fun running into a player who intends to use the full extent of their obnoxious amount of materials in any fight they come across and there's no good way to fight them without being forced to do the same in an endless fight for the high ground. Disabling turbo building would be a drastic change for Fortnite that would immediately resolve this problem.
