Detroit mayor turns down Johnson & Johnson vaccine

Detroit’s Democrat mayor said his city did not need a shipment of the recently approved Jonshon & Johnson vaccine. Mayor Mike Duggan (D) made the announcement Thursday and said the city turned down 6,200 doses of the new vaccine this week.
He stated Detroit had already received 29,000 doses of the Pfizer and Moderna shots, which he noted was enough to vaccinate every eligible resident. Duggan clarified if every current vaccine is used and people still need shots, he’d be willing to set up a Johnson & Johnson center.

“Johnson & Johnson is a very good vaccine,” Mayor Duggan stated. “Moderna and Pfizer are the best and I’m going to do everything I can to make sure residents of the city of Detroit get the best.”

A spokesman for the mayor also confirmed the city already had enough vaccines to cover the week’s scheduled appointments. Duggan clarified his comments on the Johnson & Johnson vaccine by stating once the demand is warranted, the city of Detroit will have a distribution plan for it ready.
