Scarlett Johansson Wears New Black Widow Costume in BTS Photo

0

Scarlet Johansson wears one of her new Black Widow costumes in a behind-the-scenes photo from the upcoming MCU movie. After dying in an act of self-sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame (and not being resurrected by the Hulk’s snap), Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff will be brought back for a prequel film teaming her with other Black Widow operatives Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) and Melina Vostokoff (Rachel Weisz).

Of course Johansson’s Black Widow standalone film was supposed to arrive as part of 2020’s blockbuster summer season, but COVID put the movie on delay along with the rest of Hollywood’s release schedule. Despite talk of Black Widow getting a streaming release via Disney+, Kevin Feige's plan for now remains to put the movie out in theaters in 2021. In addition to Johansson, Pugh and Weisz, the movie’s cast includes David Harbour as comic book character Red Guardian. Cate Shortland directed the film from a script by Eric Pearson (Thor: Ragnarok).

As fans eagerly await the return of the MCU to movie screens (or at least TV screens) with Black Widow, makeup artist Deborah Lamia Denaver shared a cool behind-the-scenes image from work on the film that gives fans another look at one of Johansson’s new Black Widow costumes. See the shot in the space below:

Fans of course were already treated to glimpses of Johasson's look in the new movie via a Black Widow trailer that came out all the way back in 2019 (before COVID put the movie’s release on hold for much longer than anyone could’ve predicted at the time). The costume Johansson is seen wearing above has indeed already been speculated to be a suit from her days in the Red Room, the top secret Soviet training facility where she originally learned her Black Widow skills. The trailer of course also showed Natasha Romanoff wearing a white suit, helping her blend in with a snowy environment she encounters during the course of the film’s story.

The new image may not provide any extra clues about what happens in Black Widow story wise, but it does give fans a better look at the costume than they got in the trailer. This will no doubt help cosplayers as they concoct their own perfect copies of the costume to wear when conventions eventually begin happening again. As for the Black Widow movie, fans can only hold their breaths and hope that there are no more delays. Indeed, a standalone adventure for Natasha Romanoff has been a long time coming (the character debuted in the MCU all the way back in 2010), and after her tragic sacrifice in Endgame she absolutely deserves a bigger and badder showcase than she’s received before.
