Astros sign Jake Odorizzi
Jake Odorizzi has signed a two-year contract with the Houston Astros. The deal also reportedly has a player option for a third year. Odorizzi was by most accounts the last of the top free agents available and should fortify an Astro’s rotation that just lost Framber Valdez for the season with a finger injury. Odorizzi should slot in behind Zack Greinke and Lance McCullers in the rotation.
Odorizzi had multiple injuries last season and only pitched 13.2 innings. Whether or not he has enough time to be ready to take his first turn through the rotation remains to be seen as Opening Day is just 25 days away. While Odorizzi has made at least 28 starts in a season six times, he has never thrown more than 188 innings in a season.
The Astros are +2500 to win the World Series this season, +950 to win the American League, and +130 to win the American League West.
