Sheffield United next manager odds: Cowley leads market to replace Wilder, Bilic, Howe & Lampard also in contention

0

DANNY COWLEY is the frontrunner to replace Chris Wilder as Sheffield United’s next permanent manager.

That’s according to bookmakers Betfair, who’ve installed the former Lincoln and Huddersfield gaffer as 4/1 favourite to take charge at Bramall Lane.

Danny Cowley, Slaven Bilic and Eddie Howe are in the running to replace Chris Wilder

The 42-year-old is a free agent having been sacked by the Terriers in July after 10 months in charge of the Championship club.

But there’s plenty of competition for the role with several big name candidates also in the picture.

Slaven Bilic is a fraction behind at 5/1.

The Croatian helped West Brom achieve promotion during his debut season at the Hawthorns but was relieved of his duties in December.

Eddie Howe, who won the Championship title with Bournemouth in 2014-15, is available at 7s while Garry Monk is offered at 8/1 with Betfair.

Axed Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is further back at a double-figure 12/1 with David Wagner the same price.

Stamford Bridge legend and Aston Villa assistant manager John Terry is 16/1, while Rafa Benitez and Philip Cocu are locked at 20/1.

Alan Pardew is the 40/1 outsider of the field to pack in his role as technical director at CSKA Sofia and return to the Premier League.

The Blades have won just four Premier League games this season

Wilder’s future has been in the headlines this week amid growing tensions between the manager and Saudi owner Prince Abdullah.

The Blades are planning for life in the Championship and will give Wilder the authority to shape the squad.

However, big offers for more sought-after players like Sander Berge will be listened too.

Reports suggest there has been very little communication between Wilder and the board with transfers and training ground improvements the main source of contention.

SunSport understand that ‘both parties’ feel it’s time for a change this summer with relegation almost certain.

And the 53-year-old will be cheaper to pay off when his salary drops back to second-tier level.
