The world of Valheim is full of dangerous mythological beasts like trolls and drakes. Even the ocean is home to some terrifying sea monsters. Sea serpents may be one of the most dangerous monsters currently in the game, but hunting these monsters in Valheim is definitely worth it.
There's a lot for players to discover in Valheim. There are multiple story-related events, nine bosses to take down, and mysteries involving things like the cloaked figure who disappears when players approach. Over the course of the game, players will have to fight numerous enemies. At first, defeating a sea serpent might sound intimidating, but players will find that hunting these monsters is often worth the extra chance of danger.
Admittedly, killing a sea serpent in Valheim isn't always easy. Players will need a raft or boat to take to the open water, and having ranged weapons can certainly help - since it means players can damage the sea serpent from a distance without getting close enough for the monster to destroy their boat. Weapons like the Abyssal Harpoon can also make taking down a sea serpent a whole lot easier. Additionally, players can move the serpent to the shallows, where the monsters can be taken down better with melee weapons. No matter what strategy players use, hunting these sea monsters in Valheim come with numerous rewards.
Sea serpents are valuable because of their drops, including serpent scales and serpent meat. Cooked serpent meat restores a huge amount of health, which can be really helpful during Valheim's boss fights. Using cooked serpent meat to make serpent stew is also ideal, since serpent stew has the highest base stats of any food currently in the game. It's a high-risk, high-rewards system that definitely makes hunting down sea serpents worth the effort.
Of course, Valheim is still in early access, so the way sea serpent drops work could change. An update called "Hearth and Home" is expected soon and will focus on housing and cooking, so new foods may end up replacing serpent stew as such a hot commodity. Another update, "Ships and the Sea," is focusing on the ocean biome so it could also affect sea serpents and drops to make things like the Serpent Scale Shield, one of the more powerful shields in the game.
For now, however, hunting down sea monsters in Valheim is a dangerous but profitable endeavor. For those willing to take risks, hunting and defeating sea serpents can definitely be worth it.
