Bloodborne Doll's Cut Dialogue Lines Hints At Undiscovered Lore

0

A new video has surfaced online that shows some cut dialogue from the Bloodborne doll which hints at previously undiscovered lore. When Bloodborne released 6 years ago for the PlayStation 4, the final version of the game actually used different dialogue from the Alpha version. This included the use of different voice actors within various roles. One such role that was changed between the Alpha version of Bloodborne and the final version of the game that released was that of the doll.

Within Bloodborne, the doll serves as a way of levelling up the game’s protagonist, the Hunter, within The Hunter’s Dream. She was created by Gehrman, the original hunter in Bloodborne, to keep him company as well as to serve others. Throughout Bloodborne's story, the doll develops a strong relationship with the Hunter, and regardless of the ending that is achieved by the player the doll will continue to serve Bloodborne’s protagonist in some way, even if it is just wishing them well.

New footage has been shared by Lance McDonald on YouTube that shows side by side comparisons of the doll’s dialogue within both the Alpha and the final version of Bloodborne. Aside from a noticeable change in the voice actors between the dolls in each version of the game, most of the dialogue remains somewhat similar (most conversations deliver the same information, just with slightly different phrasing). However, there is also the revelation that some content was cut from the PS4 release of Bloodborne. Within the cut content, which had dialogue recorded for both the Alpha and final PS4 version, players actually had the option to kill the doll.

Both versions of the doll react when attacked by the Hunter by, rather upsettingly, alluding to the fact that they are being hurt for displeasing the player. They then ask the Hunter to either “shut (them) down” or “dispose of (them).” Once players have killed the doll in Bloodborne’s cut content, she will remain dead, but still serves as a vessel to channel blood echoes.

As well as compiling this video offering some more background into the lore of Bloodborne, Lance McDonald has also recently released an unofficial Bloodborne patch. McDonald’s patch, which was released after a similar patch was not provided by either Sony or FromSoftware, enables the game to be played at 60fps. This patch does, however, reduce Bloodborne’s overall resolution.

FromSoftware is currently working on Elden Ring, a game that has generated more hype and speculation than actual credible information. Whatever the Bloodborne developers do reveal next, though, will no doubt be welcomed by fans who are eager to hear more. Until then, this little bit of bonus Bloodborne backstory will have to quench the insatiable thirst of FromSoftware’s most faithful followers.
