Golden Knights’ Marc-Andre Fleury Added to NHL’s COVID Protocol List
The Vegas Golden Knights may have a problem between the pipes. Starter Marc-Andre Fleury was added to the league’s COVID list and may not suit up on Friday against the Blues. The plot thickens as backup Robin Lehner is nursing an upper-body injury and on a conditioning loan with the team’s AHL affiliate. At this point, it’s unclear if Fleury has tested positive for COVID or had some contact tracing or if there’s been a false positive. Logan Thompson and Dylan Ferguson were the goaltenders on the ice for Vegas’ Friday morning practice, with Lehner and Fleury absent.
It would be a massive blow to the West Division leaders to have Fleury miss any amount of time. The former Penguin is having a renaissance season for the Knights and is making a serious case for his first career Vezina trophy. The 2003 first overall pick leads the league with a 1.73 goals-against average, .938 save percentage, and four shutouts. At this point, consider Fleury day-day and don’t expect him in the crease on Friday night. Logan Thompson will likely get his first NHL start when the Golden Knights face St. Louis tonight.
