No known injuries after shots were fired in north Austin, police now searching for gunmen

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin-Travis County EMS said no victims were found after shots were fired in north Austin off North Lamar Boulevard Friday afternoon. The search for the gunmen is underway.

The Austin Police Department said the call came in at about 1:24 p.m. for the 10000 block of North Lamar. That's near Longspur Boulevard just north of Rundberg Lane.

About an hour later, ATCEMS said there were no victims found. Crews did end up evaluating three people but all refused trips to the hospital.

Officers said they cleared the building in question, but the scene remains active. Lamar Boulevard from Grady Drive to Rundberg Lane is closed off to traffic, APD reported. They're still asking people to avoid the area.

In a news briefing Friday afternoon, APD said the original call came in as a "reported active shooter," but when officers got there, those involved had left the scene. Detectives are working to find out what happened and who fired the shots. They're interviewing drivers and witnesses in the area and looking at video surveillance to find what may be several gunmen.

Officers do not believe there is a threat to the public.

ATCEMS said four ambulances and three commanders in addition to Austin Fire crews were called out to the scene. Senior Patrol Officer Demitri Hobbs said a lot of city resources were deployed to keep people safe.

"There's lots of resources. You had a helicopter up above just in case there were some wounded that could be taken to the hospital quickly," Hobbs said.
