In the Heights Movie Posters: Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Musical Comes To Theaters
Warner Bros. dropped six new posters for In the Heights, the Jon M. Chu-directed film adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda's Broadway musical. Initially released in 2007, In the Heights was Miranda's first taste of major Broadway success and set the stage for his 2015 smash hit Hamilton. In the Heights will serve as the first adaptation of a Miranda stage musical crafted for the big screen.
The film centers around bodega owner Usnavi and his life as a community member of Washington Heights. Usnavi, a role originated by Miranda on the stage, will be portrayed by fellow Hamilton alum Anthony Ramos. The cast also includes Stephanie Beatriz, Ariana Greenblatt, Jimmy Smits, Corey Hawkins, Dascha Polanco, and Miranda himself, who will be appearing in a small role.
The In the Heights posters, which Warner Bros. released through the official In the Heights Twitter account, tease a colorful, lively retelling of the Broadway musical, and emphasize Miranda's work on Hamilton and Chu's direction of 2018's Crazy Rich Asians. Check out all six posters below.
The posters set the tone for what should be an exciting musical film. Warner Bros. was interested in giving viewers a feel for what to expect from the movie when it hits theaters and HBO Max on June 18. Fireworks, pools, waterfalls, and block parties all serve as a way to bring Washington Heights to life in these new posters and tease a crowd-pleasing romp filled with songs that are sure to be burrowed in your brain for days on end after watching the movie.
In the Heights is sure to be hotly anticipated, given the Hamilton film's success on Disney Plus, that movie, and 2016's Moana, gave mainstream audiences a taste of Miranda's musical skills. Given Miranda's heavy involvement with the cinematic adaptation of In the Heights, it's sure to serve as a faithful retelling of Usnavi and Washington Heights' story. It's also likely to serve as a star-making vehicle for Ramos, who has become a frequent collaborator with Miranda. As popular as the taped version of Hamilton was, In the Heights will be a much different type of film, and it could turn Ramos into one of Hollywood's next major acting phenoms.
The hype for In the Heights has been building since it missed its original Summer 2020 release due to the COVID-19 pandemic. These new posters will only serve as a boon to that anticipation, leaving audiences more excited than ever to see the film finally.
