Shadow & Bone: The 10 Coolest Moments In The New Trailer
The first teaser trailer for Netflix's Shadow and Bone dropped recently, with a look at Alina Starkov, her powers and a tiny sneak peek at the characters of Six of Crows.
The trailer doesn't give much away at all, but it does introduce both fans and those who might be new to the Grishaverse to The Shadow Fold, and it does a great job of creating excitement about what's to come. The series, based on the best-selling books by Leigh Bardugo, comes out at the end of April and combines both the Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows storylines.
10 The Shadow Fold
Fans of the books will know that the Shadow Fold is a terrifying area of darkness that's filled with all kinds of monsters. The trailer gives us a brief look and it certainly doesn't disappoint.
It seems like Netflix really pulled out all the stops to make the Shadow Fold look as daunting as it is in the books.
9 The Darkling
Fans will be pleased that we finally get a better look at General Kirigan aka The Darkling in the new trailer. His voice introduces us to the Shadow Fold in the trailer, and we see him cut into Alina's arm with his fancy ring, letting her powers loose with a burst of sunlight.
The Darkling is a very mysterious character, and there's a lot about his background that can be explored in the show, and it's also exciting that they aren't shying away from the scale of his powers and the fact that he has different identities and layers to his character.
8 The Crow Club
Most of the trailer was centered around the events happening in Ravka. The audience gets a short glimpse of the Ketterdam side of things with an exciting shot of what is hopefully the Crow Club, a gambling house run by Kaz Brekker and the Dregs.
Viewers don't get to see much, but it all looks very stylish.
7 Alina Showing Off Her Powers
The last shot of the trailer shows Alina literally radiating light as the sun summoner. Viewers don't know exactly where she is, but they do know that The Darkling seems to be mentoring her and showing her off to the royal family.
It's an impressive shot, and you can even see The Darkling use some of his powers to create darkness. Their contrast is so interesting and it's one of the best things about the two characters.
6 The Grisha
The Grisha Order is an army of soldiers who have magical powers. There are different types of Grisha, and they're usually identified by the color of their "keftas." While the Darkling wears a black kefta, the other colors range from blue to white.
Squallers, who wear blue keftas, can manipulate air, and the audience gets a really cool shot of one powering the sand skiff and fighting other soldiers. There are so many layers to the Grisha Order and it's really exciting to see the different powers in action in the trailer.
5 Jesper On A Sand Skiff
It's so quick that most might miss it on first viewing, but Jesper is seen shooting a Grisha soldier on a skiff in the Shadow Fold. While it's a super-fast shot, it's the first hint we've gotten at the Crows interacting with the world of Shadow and Bone.
If he's in the Shadow Fold then it's safe to assume that something brings Kaz, Inej, and Jesper to Ravka. No one really knows what that reason might be just yet, but they’re bound to cause some trouble.
4 Kaz
Viewers also get a glimpse of Kaz sans hat, wielding his cane and looking irritated at a gambling Jesper, so it could be that the shots seen of them in the trailer are from the same scene, which means they're trying their best to keep plot details hidden.
It's also great to see Kaz without the hat he's been wearing in all the stills that have been released so far.
3 Inej
Views don't get to see a lot of the Crows, only a few seconds of footage. However, what is seen is Inej doing what she does best: being The Wraith.
She's climbing down a rope inside an unidentified building, but this scene and the one of Jesper on a skiff are the biggest sign of whether or not the Crows carry out a heist in their prequel plotline.
2 The Volcra
Volcra are frightening winged creatures and the main threat inside the Shadow Fold. They're quite hard to imagine in the books, and they look incredible in the trailer, even though viewers don't get to see much.
There's a glimpse of a Volcra attacking Mal in the trailer, which is what sets off Alina's powers in the first place.
1 Mal Running After Alina
Whether you like him or not, Mal is absolutely a highlight of the teaser trailer. When Alina goes with The Darkling, Mal is shown running after her and yelling her name and it just such a good taste of what's to come for the two characters.
They have such a close relationship in the books and what we've seen in the trailer only makes things more exciting.
