AC Valhalla Update Lets You Change the Appearance Of Your Best Gear

0

Finally, Assassin's Creed Valhalla will get the long-awaited Transmog feature that will allow players to change the appearance their gear and weapons when Title Update 1.2.0 arrives tomorrow, March 16. Compared to Assassin's Creed Odyssey, AC Valhalla's gear options are lackluster. This is due in part to the absence of the Transmogrification system Ubisoft added to AC Odyssey after launch, a system the franchise's latest entry currently lacks.

The feature in question allows players to alter one piece of gear's appearance to look like another. For example, if a player likes the look of a newly found black hood but its stats are inferior to the red one they've been donning, using the Transmog option will keep the red hood and its stats equipped while adopting the appearance of the black attire. Such a post-launch addition to AC Odyssey greatly improved the gear system and garnered plenty of praise from fans and critics alike. Thus, many were surprised to learn Transmog options didn't make the jump to AC Valhalla on day one, especially since finding decent-looking gear is no easy task.

Details from Ubisoft about AC Valhalla's next big patch, which drops March 16, note that Title Update 1.2.0 will at long last bring Transmogrification back to the series. To change gear and weapon appearances "within the same category of items," players will need to visit Gunnar the blacksmith in Ravensthorpe. Though players could fiddle with Odyssey's Transmog function in the game's pause menu for free, Gunnar will charge 50 silver for his services. The 12 -18GB patch will also add support for the Ostara Festival, an event set to last from March 18 to April 8. During the Ostara Festival, fans can expect to find a "bloomy Ravensthorpe" replete with special rewards and side activities like egg hunts.

Three new skills are joining AC Valhalla's robust set of skills, too. Fearless Leaper introduces a larger area of effect for the leap attack; Raven's Loot lets Eivor's trusted raven companion gather loot from enemies killed with ranged attacks; and Loot Food increases Eivor's chance of looting food from dead bodies. A Close Camera Option is entering the mix as well, activating a closer camera view during regular gameplay that's pulled back when Eivor enters combat.

News that the feature will cost in-game coin is already ruffling the feathers of some fans online, particularly those who remember the Transmog system's simplicity in AC Odyssey. If the disappointment turns into widespread backlash, it'll be interesting to see if and how Ubisoft responds.

This coming batch of changes counts as the third major update that AC Valhalla's received since launch. The Yule Festival marked the first, having gone live back in mid-December. Earlier this month, Ubisoft added the raid-oriented River Raids content, an update that's largely garnered mixed reception.
