Guard Joe Thuney Agrees to a Five-Year Deal with the Chiefs
The Chiefs have spent the past few days creating cap space, first by releasing both of their starting tackles and then by restructuring Patrick Mahomes’ contract, and they put that cap space to use on Monday. Thuney and the Chiefs have reportedly agreed to a massive five-year contract worth $80M, which breaks down to an average annual value of $16M. The first years are fully guaranteed at $32.5M, and the third year becomes guaranteed after the third year of the deal.
The Chiefs’ offensive line was solid for most of the year last season, but they were exposed badly in the Super Bowl against the Buccaneers. The Bucs had Mahomes under duress for most of that contest, and the Chiefs were limited to a season-low nine points. Adding Thuney will hopefully solve that problem next season.
Despite losing to the Buccaneers, the Chiefs are the current betting favorite to win Super Bowl LVI at +500 on FanDuel Sportsbook.
