Shaq Barrett Re-Signs with the Buccaneers
Barrett became a free agent after the Buccaneers chose to place the franchise tag on Chris Godwin, but he will reportedly be heading back to Tampa Bay. Agent Drew Rosenhaus told veteran NFL reporter Josina Anderson that the deal is for four years and $68M, which works out to an average annual value of $17M. There are also incentives built into the contract that could push the annual figure up to $18M, while $36M is guaranteed.
With Barrett and Godwin both under contract, the Bucs will bring back virtually the same squad the won the Super Bowl last season. Barrett was a huge part of their defense, which made life miserable for Patrick Mahomes in the final game of the season. Barrett racked up one sack in the Super Bowl after taking down Aaron Rodgers three times during the NFC Championship. He also finished with eight sacks during the regular season after recording 19 sacks the year prior.
The Bucs are widely considered to contend for another Super Bowl victory next season. They’re currently listed at +900 to win Super Bowl LVI on FanDuel Sportsbook, which puts them behind only the Chiefs.
