Homeland Salvation Movement 'has not abandoned' plan to press ahead with Pashinyan's resignation

0

The Homeland Salvation Movement has not abandoned its plan to demand Nikol Pashinayn's resignation, a member of the opposition bloc said today, commenting on possible changes in their programs after the prime minster's move to announce the date of snap parliamentary elections.

"Nikol Pashinyan's [Facebook] post, which can be deleted and edited at virtually any moment - as it has often been - cannot mark such an important political process in Armenia as elections. The Homeland Salvation Movement has stated the steps and actions which it is going to pursue," Gegham Manukyan of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaksutyun (ARF-D) told Tert.am.

Asked to comment on the promise by two of the opposition parties -  Prosperous Armenia and Bright Armenia - to run for parliament on June 20, the politician said they do not treat the kind of statements as a change in their agenda.

"The Homeland Salvation Movement is continuing its campaign because none of the parties has announced an intention to actually quit the Homeland Salvation Movement. The ARF-D has stated that there isn't any agenda in the Republic of Armenia at present. And the expression of willingness by Homeland [party] to run for elections does not mean that they are backing away from the call for Nikol Pashinyan's resignation. The movement is continuing its actions with its main agenda demand, i.e. - Nikol Pashinyan's resignation," he states.

Pashinyan announced June 20 as the date of snap elections after a meeting with the Prosperous Armenia party's leader on March 18.
