Life After Lockup: Lacey Explains Why 'Salty' John Bad Mouths Her
Lacey Whitlow did a great job at ignoring her ex John Slater last season, but these Life After Lockup stars were at odds with each other due to John's belief that Lacey called the cops on him and put him back in jail. But with Lacey being pregnant, she found it best to not entertain John's attempts to speak to her. While speaking exclusively with Screen Rant, Lacey shared her thoughts on the negative portrayal her "salty" ex gave her last season.
John and Lacey's on-and-off rollercoaster romance has been documented since Love After Lockup season 2. The two had dated before John was sent to prison. While incarcerated, John proposed to Lacey, and the two maintained a love-filled long-distance relationship. But after Lacey met Shane Whitlow through the Meet An Inmate portal, she developed feelings for him. She was soon in the middle of a prison love triangle as she entertained relationships with John and Shane at the same time. Upon their release, she decided to settle down with Shane. But, John wasn't backing down without a fight.
With Lacey constantly going back and forth between two men, John found it difficult to move on after being released from jail the last time and learning of Lacey and Shane's pregnancy. Despite the two never filming any scenes together, John spent all of season 4 stressed out over his ex and trying to contact her any way he could. During an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, Lacey finally responded to all of the negative things John said about her last season. "I know the place it's coming from, and I know that it's coming from him being jealous," Lacey said about John's criticism of her. "Basically, he's salty about the whole situation," she quipped. "I'm still married to Shane, we're having a baby together, and I'm not giving him that attention that I was."
As Lacey sees it, her ex is working hard "to paint me out to look a certain way." However, she's happily married and enjoying her newborn daughter Summer Rayne Whitlow. "If that's the only thing he's got, then go for it," Lacey added. The WeTV star also explained why viewers didn't see her saying anything about John during her confessionals last season. "I was asked to comment about it in my interviews for TV, and I wasn't comfortable talking about it at the time, because I just didn't really want to talk about it," she revealed. "But it is what it is. I just hope that he can stay clean."
John did end this Life After Lockup season on a good note. He was working hard to stay sober and even allowed the cameras to film him on a date with another woman. However, the unfinished business between John and Lacey still lingers on. It could lead to another showdown in the future. But, hopefully, John chooses to be the bigger person this time around.
