Gilmore Girls: 5 Times Paris Was A Snob (& 5 She Was Sweet)
Paris Geller is a memorable part of Gilmore Girls thanks to her intelligence, quick wit, and the fact that she terrified most people she came into contact with. It was interesting catching up with her in the revival A Year In The Life, as she was doing well professionally, but struggling in her personal life.
Paris and Rory bond throughout the entire show and Rory is one of the only people who really got to know Paris properly. While they had a rough start, their friendship evolved. While Paris acted too good for other people sometimes, she had her kind moments as well.
10 Snob: Hated Rory On Sight & Felt She Shouldn't Be At Chilton
When Gilmore Girls fans think about Chilton, they picture all the moments when Paris yelled at Rory or made her life tough. When Rory was just trying to get through her first day, Paris shared that she didn't want Rory attending the school.
Paris was being very snobby here, as she couldn't imagine that there was room at the top of the class for both of them. She didn't take into account Rory's feelings or the fact that she wanted a great education and that she deserved to be there, too.
9 Sweet: Loved Being Part Of The Bangles Concert
Season one has some problematic moments, but many of these early Gilmore Girls episodes are classic and sweet. In "Concert Interruptus," Rory and Paris got to spend some quality time outside of school, and they found that they could get along without fighting or competing.
While Madeline and Louise sneaked away to meet some older boys, Rory and Paris enjoyed the music, and Paris was so thankful to be there. This was a really sweet moment and fans slowly realized that she was a lot nicer than she seemed underneath her prickly exterior. She didn't show just anyone her more vulnerable side, though, but this was the start of her friendship with Rory.
8 Snob: Told Rory How To Eat Before A School Project
While Rory knew that Paris was smart and that working with her on school projects would probably get her a good grade, she definitely had a tough time during these moments. When they were getting ready for a debate, Paris lectured Rory about her eating habits and said, "According to the rules, we're not supposed to have dairy 48 hours before the debate. Did you eat any dairy today?"
When Rory said she had milk with her cereal, Paris freaked out and even started bugging Lorelai about why Rory was drinking milk. This was a time when Paris was pretty snobby, as she shouldn't have cared what her partner was eating. It really had nothing to do with the project.
7 Sweet: Had No Idea That Jamie Asked Her On A Date
Fans remember Paris yelling about losing her virginity, and she was in a serious relationship with Jamie during some of her Chilton years.
Before they fell in love, though, Paris had no clue how to act around people she liked, and Rory had to tell her that Jamie asked her out. Paris said, "I finally get asked out on a date and I missed it. Was it a good ask out?" Rory said it was and Paris said, "God I wish I'd been there." This showed the softer side of Paris as instead of yelling at Jamie or insulting him, as many people might have expected her to do, she was so nervous she didn't even realize what was happening.
6 Snob: Called Dean "Farmer Boy"
In the season five episode, "Tippecanoe and Taylor Too," Paris was shocked to learn that Rory and Dean were back together. She said "You're back with Farmer Boy? What gives?" which was definitely proof that she could be snobby sometimes.
While it was justifiable for Paris to ask if he was still married, she wasn't being very nice to Dean here. She didn't need to insult his character and she even went one step further, complaining that she would have to listen to Rory and Dean having sex. This was a time when she went way too far.
5 Sweet: Wanted To Help Lorelai And Luke Have A Baby
Luke and Lorelai wanted to have a child together, but when fans watched the revival, they saw that this hadn't happened. The beloved couple met with Paris at her fertility clinic to see what their options would be. It was really sweet that Paris wanted to help them have a baby and that she took this very seriously.
She let her assistant know that they are top clients who would be treated as VIPs. While Paris did act like she was important, she loved Lorelai and was never too busy for her.
4 Snob: Wouldn't Take Care Of Doyle When He Was Sick
Paris didn't enjoy being around people who were ill, and when she dated Doyle at Yale, she asked her beloved nanny to take care of him. It would have been a lot better if Paris had wanted to help Doyle herself, and this was another time when she seemed a bit snobby.
If she really cared about Doyle, which she seemed to, she would have been okay being with him when he was having a hard time, and she would have been more caring and compassionate. Even when in a loving relationship, Paris had trouble forgetting about her own self-interest sometimes.
3 Sweet: Wanted To Room With Rory At Yale
When Rory arrived at Yale, she found out that Paris wanted them to be roommates and had made it happen. This was a surprise, but it was a good thing for both characters, as they felt comfortable living with a friend and could also explore all that Yale had to offer.
Paris wanted to keep their friendship going strong, and while it would have been good for her to give Rory a heads-up or ask what she thought about the idea, she was trying to be nice.
2 Snob: Broke Up With Jamie To Date Prof. Fleming
In the fourth season of Gilmore Girls, Paris broke up with Jamie because she wanted to date Prof. Asher Fleming. This was a snobby decision, as she loved Jamie and felt connected to him, but she felt that Prof. Fleming was a more mature and distinguished romantic choice.
Paris definitely worried about continuing her high school relationship, and she liked the fact that an older person who was so successful was interested in her. She and Jamie could have ended up together if she hadn't made this decision.
1 Sweet: Was Insecure & Concerned About How People Saw Her
In A Year In The Life, Paris shared with Rory that she was insecure and worried about what people thought about her. Rory knew Paris better than other people, but even she didn't always see Paris at her most vulnerable and emotional, so she tried her best to help her through this tough moment.
While Paris could be a snob who thought she was better than other people and could be judgemental, she had a kind heart buried underneath her insults and harsh comments.
