iPad Air Repairs: How Much It Costs To Fix Common Tablet Issues
Apple's iPad Air 4 is an impressive device, one that's equipped with an A14 processor and compatible with both the latest Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil 2. While it can be a workhorse tablet for things like office work and video editing, it can be just as susceptible to damage as other iPads in Apple's lineup. The good news is, if that does happen, Apple has laid out numerous ways to get these powerful tablets repaired again.
Apple, of course, promotes its AppleCare+ program as a method of protecting Apple products from issues that may occur. All iPad models come standard with one year of hardware repair coverage through their limited warranties, and purchasing AppleCare+ boosts that coverage to allow up to two instances of accidental damage protection each year. The areas that AppleCare+ protects include the battery, Apple Pencil, iPad keyboard, USB cable and power adapter, as well as iPadOS and iCloud software.
If a covered issue surfaces with an iPad Air while its under warranty, users won't have to pay a fee to get it repaired. If it falls outside of the warranty coverage, however, users will need to pay a service fee that varies depending on their version of the iPad Air and the type of coverage they have. AppleCare+ service fees are a standard $49 across the board for all four editions of the iPad Air. Without AppleCare+, out-of-warranty service fees will cost $249 for the original iPad Air, $299 for the iPad Air 2, $379 for the iPad Air 3, and $419 for the iPad Air 4.
Outside of the initial service fee, there are a few extra costs that could come into play when trying to get an iPad Air repaired. For instance, all service fees mentioned above are subject to tax. In addition, if the damaged iPad needs to be shipped in order to be fixed, Apple will tack a $6.95 shipping fee on the total cost. Extra fees may also be warranted, depending on the type of issue that's taking place. Battery issues that are covered under warranty or AppleCare+ won't face any additional charges to get fixed, but those same issues will be subject to a $99 fee if the device is out of warranty. Also, if there's any issue taking place with one of the iPad Air's available accessories, like the second-generation Apple Pencil, it could require a $29 AppleCare+ incident fee or a $109 out-of-warranty service fee to get repaired.
Apple also suggests that before sending an iPad Air in for repair, it is recommended to back up the data on the device and prepare the tablet for the possibility of being replaced. In the case of having to get a replacement, users will need to restore the data they previously backed up to their new iPad and set it up again from Apples factory settings.
