Falcon & Winter Soldier Episode 5 Is Show's Strongest Says Producer
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier episode 5 is the show's strongest, says producer Nate Moore. Disney+'s second original MCU series will only have six episodes and the series made big strides towards its endgame with its fourth episode, "The Whole World Is Watching." John Walker, embarrassed by his defeat at the hands of the Dora Milaje, takes the last remaining Super Soldier serum in the hopes of being able to keep up with those around him.
While the Super Soldier serum amplifies physical strength, it also amplifies internal qualities as well and, by the end of the episode, John Walker's pent-up rage has boiled over into murder. When his partner, Lemar Hoskins, AKA Battlestar, dies in combat, Walker is incensed and pursues a Flag-Smasher named Nico. When Walker catches up with Nico he murders him in front of a crowd of onlookers and the episode ends on a shot of Captain America's bloodied shield.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's fourth episode may have been its darkest yet, but Moore says it's only going to get stronger from here. The producer told Vanity Fair's Still Watching podcast that the fifth episode is the strongest out of the batch. Moore says it's a culmination of the show's themes before going on to add that everything from the filmmaking on display to the performances of the actors in the fifth episode is the strongest it has been yet.
[Episode] Five really gets to be the culmination of the theme. And I do think both from an acting standpoint and from a filmmaking standpoint, it's our strongest episode.
Those working behind the scenes on Falcon and the Winter Soldier have been steadily hyping the series' fifth episode. Showrunner Malcolm Spellman has said the episode will make viewers cry and after last week's emotional ending it's not out of the realm of possibility. Walker's murder of Flag-Smasher Nico is doubly heartbreaking when considering the fact that, earlier in the episode, Nico tells Karli Morgenthau that he looked up to Captain America as a child. This reveal only served to underscore the shakiness of Captain America as a symbol and it sounds like that will come to a head in the fifth episode.
Also in store for the fifth episode is a surprise, new MCU character from the comics played by a well-known actor. With the episode reportedly over an hour long, it certainly sounds like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's fifth episode is shaping up to be its most important entry yet. With the finale following a week later and a confrontation between John Walker and Bucky and Sam inevitable, the series' endgame is becoming clear. How it will play out, though, remains a mystery.
