Fake GTA 6 Reveal Trailer Perfectly Combines Fan Rumors & Wishes

0

A fake trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6, created and released as an April Fool's joke, depicts exactly what fans want out of a theoretical sequel. The latest release in Rockstar Games' franchise, Grand Theft Auto 5, released in 2013 and featured three criminal protagonists trying to make it big in the California-inspired region of San Andreas. The game's online multiplayer component, Grand Theft Auto Online, has continued to receive support from Rockstar.

With GTA 5 now more than seven years old, and Rockstar's previous title Red Dead Redemption 2 nearing three years old, franchise fans are desperate for news about a sixth Grand Theft Auto title. Some fans on Reddit have even begun creating their own dream protagonists, complete with character illustrations, detailed backgrounds and custom logos for Grand Theft Auto 6. Recently a new webpage created by Rockstar sparked rumors that GTA 6 would soon be announced, though nothing has come of this development yet.

A fake Grand Theft Auto 6 gameplay trailer, created by YouTube channel Marion XGamer, served as the perfect April Fool's prank when it was posted on April 1. The trailer is extremely well-made and believable, using the calm explanatory voice-over used in much of Rockstar's pre-release gameplay trailers. The phony gameplay footage was complied from a variety of sources, including other YouTubers and a 2013 gameplay trailer for Ubisoft's The Crew. Marion XGamer's trailer includes a ton of features that GTA fans want from GTA 6, such as photorealistic graphics and multiple open-world cities to explore.

While the franchise's single-player component has been stagnant for years, Grand Theft Auto Online appears to be more popular than ever. Several celebrities, such as basketball legends Lebron James and Kevin Durant and rapper Travis Scott, have recently expressed their love for role-playing within the online multiplayer space. In order to ensure the continued popularity of GTAO, Rockstar provides frequent events and bonuses for players. This week the developer offered a free vehicle, along with special outfits and a triple money bonus, for those who played.

While Marion XGamer's Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer may be fake, it does represent exactly what franchise fans would want out of a current-gen sequel. A brand new single-player story would please those who aren't interested in online multiplayer content, and a massive open world would enhance both singleplayer and multiplayer content. With GTA 5 about seven years old and RDR2 releasing two years ago, fans are eagerly anticipating Rockstar's next project.
