Baton Rouge, La. – Dulce Delacruz gave the Friends University Powerlifting program it's first-ever national championship and paced a fifth place overall finish nationally for the Falcon Women in the raw division this past weekend at the USA Collegiate Nationals in Baton Rouge, La.
Delacruz's championship performance included two personal records (PR) in the Squat and increasing her PR in the Bench press.
"I'm very proud of how our athletes represented Friends University, said Joe Belden, Friends University Powerlifting Head Coach & Assistant AD of Athletic Performance. "Even though there were a few disappointments, we still posted 26 new personal records and matched six more. Everyone gave tremendous effort and left it all on the platform."
"Multiple people asked me about our university and where we were from this week. We definitely put Friends University on the collegiate powerlifting map. I feel great about where we are in year two of our program. We qualified 14 for collegiate nationals, had a national champion and posted a fifth place finish."
